Make Your Berry Dreams Come True

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

Blueberries are one of the most delicious and nutritious foods available to today’s consumer. Jam-packed with antioxidants, they have been shown to reduce the risks of certain diseases, inflammation and even cancer. Better yet they taste and smell fantastic.

Blueberries grow wild here in the bushes. Thing is, the bears like them too, so depending on where you pick them, you have to always keep one eye open when picking.! They also start growing in our hottest months, so its not too often that one feels like picking berries in the heat.We tried transplanting some trees a few years ago from the bush, into our yard, but they didn't take. But they are a free fruit to pick in some areas of the country and a nice and healthy fruit to eat.

For those that love blueberries, welcome:

The Blueberry Store - a great online market place for all things blueberry. You can get the tried and true blueberry baked goods and some tasty preserves and jellies. You can think inside the box with blueberry themed gift baskets or outside the box with some unique items such as blueberry themed pet supplies, blueberry bath products, blueberry mugs and so much more. If you are looking for something different why not try a blueberry BBQ sauce or blueberry salsa. The true blueberry fanatic can purchase a great variety of blueberry bushes that you can plant and grow in your own back yard.

Make your wildest blueberry dreams come true with a visit to The Blueberry Store online or fill out the form for a free catalog.

Review and Giveaway: Unjunk Your Junk Food by Andrea Donsky and Randy Boyer ( Canada only)

Make the healthier choice and join the food revolution. The book Unjunk your Junk Food: Healthy Alternatives to Conventional Snacks will help you find healthy alternatives to your favourite snacks. It’s a great way to change your diet without giving up the snacks you love. The book is jam packed with savvy alternatives to conventional brand, “worst ingredients” list, as well as tips for reading labels to get the nutrition you need in a snack food you want. It will even help you recognize false claims made by some companies. Now you can discover how to choose a (healthier) cake and eat it too!

What I loved about this book was that it had great color pictures and was in a great easy to read format. I loved reading about why I shouldn't be eating this food or beverage and what a healthier alternative was.Great book! What I didn't like was that here in Canada we don't carry alot of the healthier versions of the foods/beverages that I saw in the book, and it tends to be more U.S based. However, the book does include site links to all the healthier versions of the foods and their web sites in the back of the book. Its still a must read book.

We will be giving away a copy of one of these books to one lucky winner from Canada, based on the fact that our book sponser, is Canadian based.A random draw will be held by Random.org on March 10, 2012 from all entries received.

Peace of Mind When Travelling With Medjet Assist

Monday, February 27, 2012

Having a medical emergency abroad is one of every traveller’s biggest nightmares.

While some travellers may be aware of the financial troubles that can become associated with treatments away from home, and buy travel insurance, they may become surprised that the insurance does not cover the transportation, which can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, to a hospital close to their home. This can become especially important when you become hospitalised for a length of time without access to familiar surroundings, family and friends or even your own doctors.

A MedjetAssist membership bridges the gap that is often seen in these platinum cards or travel insurance contracts by providing emergency transport to a member who has been hospitalized as in inpatient or who has been hospitalized due to an injury 150 miles from home. This incident can occur within the United States or can happen in international incidents. MedjetAssist will arrange medical evacuation and repatriation services to the hospital of the Member’s choice by MedjetAssist authorized affiliate. As soon as MedjetAssist is notified of the medical emergency, they will establish communication between the family and a local medical provider. They will stay in communication and relay messages to the medical provider or member’s family, they will offer foreign language assistance with medical personal if needed as well as relay messages to family and friends and colleagues 24 hours a day toll free.

There are no cost limits for the medical transfer; MedjetAssist is a great way to obtain a peace of mind while travelling.

Dempster’s Launches Their New Bagel Formulation

Although I don't eat bagels, Gerry does, so he was quite willing to review Dempster's new recipe for their new fluffier and softer bagel.

The new recipe for Dempster’s Bagels ensures every bagel toasts up to be crispy on the outside yet stays soft and fluffy on the inside. Made fresh daily in bakeries across Canada, Dempster’s Bagels use a special recipe and authentic baking process. The improved recipe includes premium Canadian ingredients such as real cinnamon and spice, dried blueberries, fried onions and pumpkin seeds. The result? A bagel that’s perfect for toasting and topping.

Gerry really liked these bagels. He said they were a nice change from cereal and toast in the mornings and them being a softer bagel, made for a making a nice sandwich as well.

Vegas Trip-Day 7

Saturday, February 25, 2012

We got in too late last night for me to feel like blogging.Las Vegas is 2 hours behind our time at home, but our bodies are still running on CST.It will be hard to make the adjustment once we get back home, as I remember before doing this time change and not being able to fall asleep till 2 in the morning- just lying awake and watching the digital numbers turn from one into the next.

Today we leave Vegas, and it will be a day of planes and travelling. We'll certainly miss the nice weather with no snow, and the cheap prices for everything compared to what we pay back home. What we won't miss will be the casinos. We have a weakness to play and its not very frugal of us, and for that we feel bad.I'd say we won some and we lost some. We look forward though to getting back home to family and back to our day to day to life again, although Gerry will be back to work the day after he gets back, so not looking forward to that.

While here, we saw another couple from our home town, crossing the crosswalk.I tried to yell out to them but they never heard but I did snap their picture.

Staying at the condo, there has been daily internet fees. $50 for 3 days and then $10 a day after that. Not much I can do about that, and do like to keep in touch with you all with blogging and the family back home, so I pay the fees for that luxury.

Yesterday, we travelled about an hour out of the city to the Valley of Fire State Park.It seemed like a longer drive as there was nothing in sight but desert, until we hit the park. It is something else to see though: red sandstone formations and multi colored sandstone created over 150 million years ago.Quite the must see. $10 out of state entrance fee to get into the park as well.

In the evening we were at the Terry Fator show at the Mirage. We had this show scheduled for the end of our week and it was well worth the wait.He was every bit of what we had seen on tv of him. From seeing him on comedy shows, to America's Got Talent, we can never get enough of him. He has such an amazing ability to not only be a top notch ventriloquist but also be a great singer that can impersonate many singers, through his dolls. He made us laugh and he made us cry- thank you Terry! This is a must see how if you are in Vegas though, so don't miss it!

Vegas Trip -Day 6

Thursday, February 23, 2012

We had a great day today! Still haven't made it over to the Las Vegas sign for photo op and last day in Vegas tommorow before heading home on Saturday.

The highlight of this evening was seeing Recycled Percussion live at the Tropicana. We had first learned of the group when they appeared on America's Got Talent. Was great to see them in person as the guys give a ton of energy.Energy that pulls the crowd into their performance. Audience members are given a drum stick when they arrive and can choose a kitchen pot, pan, etc to bang away on and have fun with them during their act. They combine great drumming and guitar playing with upbeat music and a comedy of their own. After the show they meet with their fans and take time to mingle, sign autographs and do photos. This is a top of the line act that we would highly recommend as a must see on your trip to Vegas. Thanks guys for being so nice to us!

In the afternoon we took a private gondola ride at the Venetian. The Venetian offers both indoor and outdoor gondola rides with a singing gondolier that sweeps you down the Grand Canal. Our gondolier Pietro, originally from Italy was quite pleasant as he hosted us on our ride. A highly recommend for your trip.

Looking for great places to eat while in Vegas? We can highly recommend two great burger joints: I Love Burgers at Town Square and Johnny Rockets at the Venetian. Both of these places offer great fast food if you love the traditional All American food.

Last day in Vegas tommorow.  We'll certainly miss the weather! But have to get away from these slot machines- they can be addicting!

USA Tours of the Deep South

If you dream of an America which consists of lazy afternoons sipping iced tea on the airy veranda of an antebellum mansion or soaking up some serious jazz and soul food, then one of the most exciting USA tours you can take is down into the Deep South. Whether you want to while away an afternoon playing poker on an old paddle steamer, or whether you want to venture into the cradle of the American civil rights movement, the Deep South has something for you.

If you’re heading anywhere near Texas, be sure to stop off at San Antonio which is one of the most visited cities in this state. And you must remember the Alamo because this mission fortress is the top attraction in the city. If you fancy cooling down, the River Walk is a stunning waterside strip of shops and restaurants. Or if you’re all shopped out, then you can cruise down the river on a leisurely barge. If you’re planning your trip around Christmas, then this area turns into a spectacular river of light which is something to see.

Many USA tours will take you down to New Orleans which is a truly unmissable experience. You can immerse yourself fully in the culture and history by visiting a whole slew of museums. There are also lots of plantations and if you’re interested in seeing some antebellum architecture, there are lots of historical buildings open to the public. Save some time to visit the French Quarter and indulge yourself in the local cuisine. With everything from Creole through to Cajun you can try out traditional specialities like jambalaya, gumbo and po’ boys. Stick around for some night-time entertainment where you can take your pick of jazz joints. And watch out for festivals. New Orleans is famous for its Mardi Gras, but there are dozens of other music festivals throughout the year.

Why not finish up in Atlanta, Georgia? As one of America's most visited cities, there’s plenty to occupy everyone. This city is famous for being the home of Coca Cola, so if you’re a fan of the real thing you might like to pop by and visit the World of Coca Cola. For a fun day out, Stone Mountain Park is bursting with things to do. There are laser and firework shows, exciting children’s rides, and scenic train trips around the mountain. If you really have a head for heights, test your skills on the Sky Hike which is America’s biggest aerial adventure course. Once you’ve come back down to earth, try to make some time to find out more about the civil rights movement. Atlanta is home to Martin Luther King and there is a Historic Site dedicated to him where you can visit his tomb. The site has free admission and parking and you can follow the Martin Luther King journey and find out more about him and some of the other civil rights pioneers.

Our Trip To Vegas-Day 5

I'm a day behind again with my posting for our trip. Had more internet troubles and had to get some tech help, but here are our highlights from yesterday: We haven't been heading out for the day till close to lunch.Lazing away the mornings.

During the day we took a drive to Lake Mead for our Lake Mead Cruise aboard the Desert Princess. A 90 minute paddlewheel cruise with stories of the construction of the  Hoover Dam, and the formation of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. The boat was comfortable with seating on the top deck and the ability to walk around freely on all decks and take photos.

We had tickets booked for Celine Dion last night, at Caesars Palace, but when we got there, were told the concert was cancelled as she had been fighting laryngitis for several days and despite vocal rest and treatment, she had suffered a relapse and instructed by her doctor to cancel for the evening.Alot of people were there all dressed in their best, and alot had travelled from all over the world to see her, but there wasn't much anyone could do.

Did some more slot playing while at Caesars but didn't get too far ahead with that. Seemed to win what we put in and played.

Traffic on the strip is terrible in the evening, so if you are going to Vegas and planning to see some shows in the evening, please allow at least an extra hour to get a place to park and find your way to the box office. Alot of walking is involved to get from point A to point B in the hotels. The parking garages are equally as huge, so it's best to write down where you parked, so you can find your way back after. We had that happen to us last night. We thought we remembered where we parked but didn't, and had to spend about half an hour looking for our car!

Sun is shining again today so I'm off for another day!  Photobucket

Our Trip to Las Vegas-Day 4

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Today we needed to do a bit of shopping to fill the cupboards and fridge so we headed over to Whole Foods on Las Vegas Blvd. I had heard good things about the Whole Foods stores and wanted to see for myself.Gerry and I loved the look of the store and all the healthy foods it had to offer inside. With the both of us having digestive problems, this store was nice to shop at for some clean eating. We also had a chance to shop for souveniers and have lunch at Roxy's Diner, which was inside the Stratosphere, where the girls that wait the tables there, also sing for the customers.

Later we headed up to the Stratosphere Tower where we got to see great views of Las Vegas and the surrounding area, but neither one of us are brave enough to ride the rides they offer at the top!

The day ended with the Viva Elvis Show. I had seen this show with Gerry over a year ago and liked it when we saw it the first time, but was quite disappointed with it this time. The show made some changes and seemed to be selling sex more than anything. From guys and gals in underwear to pole dancing, and groping in some of the acts, it really wasn't what we had gone there to see. The music at times was so loud that even the lead singers were drowned out.I really hope that they will bring back more class to this show.

Our Trip To Vegas- Day 3

I wanted to write about our day 3 yesterday, but besides being busy I ended up having Blogger problems and not being able to post. But I seem to have worked that out this morning so will tell you want we did yesterday.

It was a slow start to the day again since Gerry and I both were suffering still from the effects of travelling. Not sure if its jet lag,or the pills we take to relax when we fly, but we both still weren't feeling our 100%.

We did some gambling during the day on the slot machines , winning a bit but losing too. But it's still fun to try your luck.

Later that evening I was quite nervous about taking my first ever and Gerry's first ever, helicopter ride with Maverick Helicopters. Our helicopter pilot Josh, made is a most pleasurable experience though, and the champagne they offered inside was a tremendous help to calm my nerves. The  flight was approx.12-15 minutes over the Las Vegas strip.  Loved the big windows in the helicopter, that offered a panoramic view as well as the ability for the helicopter to fly so close to the hotels.

We had been in a small plane before and that was not as smooth as the helicopter. I would highly recommend this to anyone, and now we are both happy to say we have completed another task off our bucket list!

Following our helicopter flight we did the CSI: The Experience- Las Vegas at MGM Grand. We had the opportunity to review it and it didn't meet our expectations. The cost per adult is $28, which is quite high for the experience that you get.We came away feeling less than satisfied, however for CSI buffs this experience would be more entertaining.

On to day 4 ......

Our Trip To Vegas- Day 2

Monday, February 20, 2012

It was a nice sleep last night in our king sized bed at the Delta Bessborough. We have a queen sized bed at home but I just love all the space of a king bed. Our room at home would be too small for a king bed. We have a mobile home and the bedroom wouldn't be large enough for one.

Enjoyed a complimentary buffet breakfast as well at the hotel.

Flew out of Saskatoon and into Las Vegas, but were missing a piece of luggage when we got into Las Vegas, along with other people on our flight. After we got all that worked out and had to speak to someone, we found out it was on another plane or at another airport and would get to our condo at 1 am.That was our clothing suitcase and the one that carried my lap top.

Picked up our car rental from Payless and saw that the fees were different from what I had printed off online. Different than what they were quoting at the counter.Had to go over this with them and delete all their unnecessary "add ons" as I would call them.

Made it into the condo late and straight to bed. 2 hours time difference from ours at home, so a bit hard on the old body to get used to. Add to that the Gravol I had been taking for the plane and fighting stomache inflammation, and yeah, I was hit hard, but today- day 3, is a new day. Will tell you all about it later.. off for breakfast.

Our Trip to Vegas-Day 1

Saturday, February 18, 2012

Hi everyone-
Well, we left today from home and on the way to Las Vegas for a week.Have the girls and my sister all taking their turns looking after the guinea pigs  that we left behind and house sitting.

Today was a 6 hour drive south to Saskatoon,Sask..Long drive but nice to arrive.Even better to arrive at a great hotel like the Delta Bessborough. As you can see, our room is beautiful. Modern decor with old fashioned flare. The Signature Club Junior Suite room is quite accomodating!

Once settled in,we went downstairs and  were welcomed by Stefan, director of Sales and Marketing.Stefan gave us and a few others, a wonderful, knowledgable tour of the hotel and its history. We would recommend anyone staying in the area to stay at this hotel. The staff we all came across have been very friendly and it's like home away from home. Thank you Delta!

Tommorow we fly to Vegas!

How to Overcome the Desire to Spend More Than What You Have

People who fail to live within their means typically spend years trying to dig themselves out of financial holes. Gaining control over your finances means overcoming the desire to spend more money than you actually have in your bank account. A person who is in control of their spending habits has the ability to save money for emergencies, invest for the long-term and retire with enough money to live. People who are accustomed to spending more than they have must overcome the desire through discipline and dedication to creating new, healthy spending habits.

These six tips are excerpted from SavingUp.com.au, where you can find many more ways to save money at home, in business, when travelling, etc.

1. Avoid impulsive spending – Shopping on an impulse is a sure way to spend money that you did not intend to spend. To curb your desire for impulsive spending, always create a list of the items you need and take the list with you when shopping. Avoid buying things you do not need simply because they are on sale.

2. Pay for items with cash - Paying for items with cash helps you to deal with the money you have at the present time. Many credit cards come with high interest rates and penalties for missing payments, paying late and going over your spending limit. Many people find themselves in credit card debt for many years because they are only able to pay the minimum amount due. Severely restricting your credit card use will help you avoid overspending.

3. Buy store brands and use coupons – Shopping for groceries is a necessary expense but you can avoid spending money you don’t have by buying store brand products and using coupons for items you buy on a regular basis. Store brand products cost less than name brand products, which saves you money on your grocery bill. You can check your weekly paper and advertisements that come in the mail for coupons to products that you continually use.

4. Stop trying to keep up with the latest fads – Almost every month it seems a new gadget or car is available for consumers to buy. Desiring the newest music player with the latest gadgets is normal, but also unwise if you have a music player that works fine. Avoid spending money on the latest fads. Keeping your car as long as possible is another sure way to save money. Buying a new car simply cost too much money and the car only depreciates in value. Invest in the maintenance of your current car, and you will be able to keep it running well for many years.

5. Eat out less and prepare your lunch – Another expense that causes people to spend more than what they have is eating out for dinner or lunch during work. It is easy to use your credit card when eating out, with the thought that you will pay for it later. Preparing a lunch to take to work and cooking in the evenings will save you a lot of money in the long run.

6. Change your mindset – Your spending habits are reflection of how you view money. To overcome the desire to spend more than what you have, you need to define your short-term and long-term financial goals, create a plan and stick with it. Wealthy people often delay instant gratification to establish a nest egg for the future.

Shop Online For Auto Insurance

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

When you buy auto insurance there are many factors that are taken into consideration as you obtain your final quote.

Things like your age, driving history, the type of vehicle you drive and even your location, as well as the type of coverage you obtain, can influence how much you end up paying for insuring your vehicle. Younger drivers tend to pay higher rates of insurance compared to more seasoned drivers, with more years of experience under their seatbelt. In fact, a clean driving record without accidents or tickets issued is a good indicator that you will pay lower insurance rates. It’s important to consider the type of car you drive when shopping for insurance, certain types of cars, such as sports cars or convertibles, or even the color of your vehicle can affect the bottom line. Where you live can have a large impact on insurance rates as well factors such as crime rate, traffic and construction are often taken into consideration by insurance companies.

While it may be tempting, to choose the lowest coverage available in order to save money, it’s best not to skimp on what you have. While no one wants to overpay for insurance, too little coverage can cost you more in the long run, when you need to make a claim.

When shopping for car insurance one of the best ways to save money is to obtain multiple online quotes from different companies, and then decide on the insurance that is right for you.

Your One Income Story by Sandy of Pa.

Sunday, February 12, 2012

I have been married 36 years and our family lived on a single income for 23 of those years. We had two goals: have enough money to pay our bills and be able to educate our daughters. We had two daughters in college together for 3 years. We wanted them to graduate without debt, so I worked the years they were in college. I didn’t have a car for three of those years but we paid their college costs: the last great gifts we could give our daughters.

It wasn’t always easy and we weren’t always sure we could pull it off. I made it my job to make the money go as far as I possibly could. He made it, I saved it. To me it was a challenge to beat the system and a game of sorts. What new way of saving could I find this week, month, year?
When I got pregnant with our first daughter, three months after we married, I started to watch every penny. We used the envelope system, dividing up the money into categories and never going into savings unless it was a real emergency such as a health related bill or a dead furnace in the middle of an upper New York state winter. I had been raised that debt is acceptable for your home, your health or an education. That’s it.

I remember in the early years being invited to cook outs where everyone brought steaks to grill. Others would have rib, porterhouse, etc. and my husband and I would have a marinated and pounded chuck steak. Really. I shopped stores according to the sales and with a top price in mind. If it wasn’t on sale or above my top price we didn’t eat it. Household items were bought used, on clearance or taken as much appreciated hand me downs. For years our kitchen table, and dining room table since we only had one, was a picnic table and benches dressed up with a table cloth and bench cushions made from sheets. Our curtains were made from sheets. Our shower curtain was made from a sheet. And those sheets, on clearance or from a yard sale.

The best thing I ever did was learn to cook from scratch. I figured if you could buy it in the store now, somebody had originally made it at home and if they could do it so could I. I canned and froze when I could get things cheaply. I never turned down the offer of free garden produce even if it was the 1 millionth zucchini offered to me. I made zucchini pickles, zucchini relish, zucchini parmesan, zucchini pancakes, just about zucchini anything. I also went to the local farmer’s market near closing and got cheap stuff the stall holder didn’t want to pack up and take home or if there were “uglies” no one else wanted. I commonly bought a case of cracked eggs, took them home and froze them. Much cheaper .

Our most challenging period was the year my husband lost his job, we moved and rented our former house and the renters stopped paying. Two mortgage payments didn’t leave a lot for other things. I bought 50 pound bags of potatoes and onions, searched out vegetarian and SUPER cheap recipes, couponed like crazy and got creative. For example, the outfits my daughters needed to go and see Grandma that summer I made using a borrowed pattern and remnants of some of the many afore mentioned sheets. They looked cute.

Now, we are almost to retirement and because we are frugal we have enough to retire. We did a lot of small things to save small amounts of money but that money added up to college educations and a peaceful retirement. It also added up to a good life. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Castle on the River

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is one of the most uniquely sounding cities in Canada, it is therefore not surprising that it is the home of some exceptional hotels such as Saskatoon Delta Bessborough.

We will be staying at the Delta as we wait for our flight to Vegas. Delta Bessborough is more than a hotel, it is like a castle. In fact it is often referred to as “Castle on the River”.

The Delta lounge is decorated in English Jacobean style with solid oak furniture covered in fine rich tapestries.

The hotel is situated on 5 acres of Elizabethan gardens with breathtaking views of the South Saskatchewan River. Fine examples of Grotesques, Gargoyles and Heraldic Emblems exist on the exterior of the building. The Delta’s Garden Court cafe-overlooking the river- is known as Saskatoon’s finest Sunday brunch . Despite its historic exterior and public areas, all the rooms feature modern amenities as well as a pool, fitness facility, Damara day spa and a business centre (with 13 meeting rooms) that the modern travel comes to expect. Yet, these modern convinces flow with the hotels classic charm.

We are very excited to stay in such a grand establishment that seems like it could be out of a fairy tale.Romantic hotel packages are also available, perfect for upcoming Valentines Day getaways.

CSI Experience Las Vegas

On our upcoming trip to Vegas-in two weeks-Gerry and I will be investigating a murder...well not technically, of course. We will be partaking in the CSI exhibit (based on the hugely popular television show and its various spin offs), at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

The CSI Experience involves you in the hands on science, the challenges and thrills involved in solving a crime mystery. At the exhibit you can be assigned to one of three different crime scenes each with a unique storyline and clues. During the experience you get to try advanced scientific technology, numerous scientific disciplines used by criminal investigators and forensic scientists today. Visitors will use the scientific process to identify evidence at the crime scene and determine which should be further studied. They will then analyze the evidence in a multidisciplinary crime lab with the help of forensic scientists. The evidence gathered will help formulate a working hypothesis –which can be then validated and communicated to their superiors.

During the exhibit the visitors can try on various scientific jobs including toxicology, forensic anthropology, forensic entomology, forensic pathology, forensic art, firearm and tool mark identification and well as blood splatter analysis. It is a perfect opportunity to try different jobs that we only see on television.

The overall goal of the exhibit is to promote public awareness in the advances in forensic science and advance critical thinking skills. Also, it will be the perfect opportunity to see whether we can believe everything we see on TV.

Counting Your Dollars

A smart way to consolidate your finances and get an overview of your money situation is to monitor your spending. It can be sobering, even shocking, when you actually write down—to the exact dollar—what you spend money on every day. Yet, financial planning is very common. In fact, most families claim to partake in some form of financial planning. The amount of of debt in this country speaks to a different reality though.

Most people, contrary to their claims, simply do not keep track of the dollars they spend. They gripe and moan about a $100 utility bill, and then will gladly drop twenties on various items throughout the day. What's to blame here is not ignorance, but rather a culture of debt. Our society, especially here in America, has come to view the global treasury has the best prepaid debit card. We can go as far into debt as we want, because we'll pay it off later. But later you—we—will have just as many debts and financial obligations as we do now, if not more. The best way to handle your financial situation is to keep track of your dollars now, on a day to day basis.

There are an abundance of web applications that will organize your finances for you, but you might be better off doing it yourself with nothing more than a piece of paper and a pen. Make a little spreadsheet for yourself, outlining each day of the week. Don't use Excel. Do it by hand (I'll explain why in a minute).

Calculate how much money you make in an average day. At the top of each of the blank days in your spreadsheet write this number. At the end of the day on Monday, write down how much money you spent underneath how much you made. Don't fudge the numbers. Add up every dollar you spent: breakfast, lunch, and dinner; prorated portions of your monthly bills, including credit card payments, car insurance, utilities, etc.; the amount of the gasoline you expended getting to work; your morning cup of coffee, your afternoon cup of coffee; your Happy Hour beer. All of it. Don't leave out anything.

The amount you spent in the day should surely not exceed the amount you earned. At least not habitually. Obviously, there are days when you must make a large payment on something. That's why you're keeping up with your expenses for the week. Come up with an average of how much you spend compared to how much you earn. If these numbers come up even you're in big trouble. Ball up that piece of paper and toss it in the recycling bin. It should feel cathartic to start from scratch. Start reducing your daily and weekly expenditures. It's the only way to plan realistically for the future.
