Review and Giveaway: Fun and Educational Toys at Educational Insights

Friday, August 31, 2012

Surprisingly, it is hard to find educational yet fun toys these days. The toys sold at the toy store seem to be lacking in both areas. Therefore, many parents and teachers are looking to the internet to find toys that spark a child’s interest and can teach them a thing or two at the same time. Educational Insights® is one such website that offers hundreds of toys for children of all ages. The sight is easy to navigate, and you are bound to find what you are looking for. You can search toys by school subject, theme, brand and much more. Another neat feature is some of the toys were invented by everyday individuals, and the site gives credit to these inventors in a small blurb under the toy listing. It is impossible to pick just one toy that really grabs your attention when visiting the site, but the following two toys are fun, educational, and have individual inventors.

The first is for ages 4+ and is known as Puppet-On-A-Stick. This toy received five out of five stars from those that have recently purchased. Most of the reviewers listed the toy as durable, educational, lots of fun, interactive and engaging. One reviewer planned to use the puppets in her kindergarten classroom, and another said the toys are fun for adults and children alike. Its inventor is Brent Geppert an Educational Insights® employee and games manager. However, he is also a dad that puts puppet shows on for his two sons every night. When putting shows on at home he uses anything from socks to dinner rolls, but he probably added these great toys to his shows after inventing them. The puppets come in a set of three zany puppets on a stick. The mouths of these purple, orange and green puppets move, and will provide your child or the kids in your classroom with hours of creative play. The characters have silly eyes that make them look like fun monsters, but your child can make them out to be whatever they want them to be. Puppets inspire kids to be creative as they have to makeup voices and character personalities.

The second toy, known as BBQ Blitz, is a game for ages 4+. The game comes complete with game board, 16 burgers featuring 4 different toppings, 12 buns, 4 plates and 4 spatulas. The game is designed to be played by 2 to 4 players, and in order to win you must be the first to fill your plate with burgers and buns, but you can’t use your hands you must use the provided spatulas to flip the burgers and buns on your plate. The game has three steps. First, choose a fun plate and decide on toppings. Second, flip the burgers on the grill to find your toppings. Finally, win by filling your plate before anyone else. This toy has also received 5 out of 5 stars, and will be enjoyed by parents and children alike. It has also received reviews of being durable, engaging and lots of fun. One reviewer said the game was fun yet simple for her children. The inventor Hans Ulrich has been inventing toys for over 40 years in the United States and Europe . A native of Germany he has even developed a secret hamburger recipe that involves raisins, and is the hit of all his barbeque parties, so he is no stranger to knowing what everyone wants on their burger.

Whether you are a teacher or a parent searching for the perfect toy, you will be sure to find it on this great site. They have games, toys that stimulate creative play, toys to teach letters and numbers, and the list just goes on and on. Additionally, for good quality, educational toys the prices are competitive so you will not go broke buying toys.

Need a Vacation? Why Not Now?

Thursday, August 30, 2012

Summer may be winding down, and so might your travels if you have kids. Most families tend to take their vacations in July and August; however, the problem with traveling during these peak months is the prices. Hotels, airlines, and even theme parks raise their rates during these months. So, if you are lucky enough to get away right now, it is a great time to travel. You will find lower airline rates after the Labor Day holiday, especially starting in October. Additionally, vacation destinations in the states such as Florida keep their warm temperatures through October, just be aware it is also hurricane season.

However, if somewhere a bit less familiar and far away is on your mind you will want to start making those plans right away, as it takes longer to plan a trip overseas. Have you ever thought about a flight to Australia? It is actually nearing the end of winter over in Australia at the moment, so you can plan for a trip later in the year or at the beginning of next year to experience an Australian summer. How great would that be? When it is snowing here it is a warm 80 degrees there. Yes, the flight is a long one, but it makes for an unforgettable trip. The beaches, wildlife and sightseeing in Australia are out of this world. It will certainly be nothing you have seen before.

So, consider your options if you have not yet taken a vacation this year. You could end up on the next flight to Australia, you never know.

What Is a Current Account ?

Without question, money is important to everyone. We need money to for everyday essentials such as food, housing and utilities. However, we also use money to enjoy vacations, movies and dining out. It is important we know we have our money with a bank we can trust, because knowing our money is in good hands allows us one less worry in a sea of many. Most people with standard needs look for a bank that offers current accounts. A current account is a British term for a transactional account.

This type of account suits the needs of the average citizen. It usually comes with a checkbook; however, with online bill pay and the like most people have little need for a checkbook. Luckily, these accounts also provide a debit card, which just about everyone uses. The days of cash have long since past as everyone pays for just about everything with a debit card. People use debit cards to buy candy bars and pay for hotel stays. They are simply used for everything.

With a current account you will be given the opportunity to pay your bills your way, including the above mentioned. However, direct, scheduled withdraws can also be arranged with a current account, so you never miss paying a bill.

Finally, some banks that offer current accounts also offer overdraft protection. This kind of protection can be a lifesaver, since overdraft fees can become quite costly. A good bank will give you the opportunity to correct your wrongs within a certain time frame. This can save you a lot of headaches if money ever gets tight.

Personal Injury Cases Can Be Confusing But You Don’t Have To Go It Alone

Being hurt in an accident, regardless of the injury, is not only scary but frustrating. There are so many ways we can get hurt these days from car accident to slipping on a wet floor; it is sometimes hard to tell if we have a personal injury case or not. Some people instinctively blame themselves, while others blame someone else. However, the idea of blame can sometimes be full of grey areas. It is hard to be sure who is at fault in any given case. Luckily, talking to a lawyer can help you sort out the details, and determine if you have a personal injury case or not.

Immediately, just about everyone starts to worry about cost when the word lawyer is mentioned. However, many lawyers will meet for a free consultation to determine if you do in fact have a case.

If you are living in the California area and have been injured you can contact the folks over at McCune Wright or visit PersonalInjuryPersonalAnswers.com to get more information about a free consultation. This will give you the opportunity to discuss your case with a professional, who will determine the next best action for you.

Most likely if you have been injured, you have incurred medical bills, other costs and emotional set backs. It is only fair that you get what you deserve. It does not mean you are money hungry or greedy if you place blame upon the responsible party. You will simply be getting the money you need to right a wrong. And in some cases, there may be no blamable party, but only a lawyer can tell you this for sure.

Today's Quick Tip

This sounds good for anyone quilting, sewing or just washing new clothes where colors can bleed.

Growing Business Connections

As many of us are aware of, networking is a vital component of developing connections between businesses as well as between individuals.

Today there are innovative ways to maintain those networking contacts through the use of software such as charity database.

Non for profit organization are well accustomed to the challenges of fundraising. Between all the contact lists of sponsors, volunteers, donations, employees and the community it can be vital to maintain all these contacts in a centralised and easy to use database system. This can be an easy way to track money and contributions as well as automate the more repetitive tasks such as reports, queries, imports, exports and automatic mailings which can be pre-programmed to be delivered promptly on time.

Larger corporations may need a more centralised system for far reaching operations as well as systems which will help them manage the often complicated fundraising goals and ideas. With any networking that you do, you have to make sure that you manage and satisfy your existing clients while at the same time grow and expand your networking reach.

It is also very beneficial to discover ways you can better your company trough data analysis of your software results. It just makes good business sense.

Review: Honeywell 40” Quiet Set Fan

If there is one thing worse than a summer heat wave, it is the loud humming noise of a fan that can make any attempt at conversation or watching television impossible. Apparently many of us had this problem as Honeywell  40” Quiet Set fan is the solution.
With its quiet setting it won’t drown out ever noise, while its space saving design will not make it the focal point of the room.  The fan has five speed setting, 75 Degree Oscillation and can be controlled via remote –for the ultimate in comfort.

Perfect, in cooling without all the unnecessary hassle.

Gerry and I love this fan. We're both the type of people as well who can't fall asleep without some noise and hate the air in the room being warm. This fan serves the purpose for both. We also love it's tall and sleek design, making it fit in area of the room nicely. We really cant say enough good things about it.

The Honeywell Quiet Set fan is available at Canadian retailers.

Keeping the Birds Safe

I had noticed a dead bird near Gerry's shop a few weeks ago and was glad I spotted it before Jake had gotten a chance to carry it off, but had told Gerry and he said it's happened before that he's found a few dead birds over by the shop window. So,I told him he should hang something up so they didn't keep flying into the window.

The photo below is what he made with a coffee can lid, some flag tape and string.

4 Tips to Combat Food Inflation

This is a guest post from money-saving author Clare, who writes for Bargainmoose.ca, the Canadian shopping community. On Bargainmoose, they blog about all the latest and greatest shopping deals, discount codes and hot Canadian freebies! Today, Clare shares some tips on how to combat food inflation - the ever rising price of groceries.

4 Tips to Combat Food Inflation

With the continued uncertain economy and unpredictable climate, food inflation is unfortunately, on the rise.   Droughts, floods, and other natural disasters have wrecked havoc on the agriculture that we depend on.   The United States Department of Agriculture estimates that food prices will rises between 2.5 to 3.5% in 2012 and another 3-4% in 2013.

What can we do to combat food inflation? Here are some tips on how to keep grocery costs to a minimum:

Get a Chest Freezer

A chest freezer can help you save money by allowing you to store foods that you have bought on sale instead of wasting it.  Meats, fish, and other bulky goods may not all fit in the freezer section of your refrigerator.
Chest freezers cost very little to operate on an annual basis, especially if you don’t open and close it very often.  Nowadays, they are space economizing as well, therefore won’t be too bulky in your home.

Buy in Bulk

With the aforementioned chest freezer, you will be able to space-afford to buy food in bulk, especially meats.  To combat food inflation (and not to mention save time and money with multiple trips to the grocer), I buy all my meat in bulk, divide the meat into meal sized portions, and put them in individually packaged freezer bags.

Make Sure your Food doesn’t Spoil

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, in the US alone, 34 million tons of food is thrown away because it gets wasted and this accounts for 14% of household waste, period.  This can add up to hundreds of dollars on an annual basis.  To avoid this, ensure that your food is kept in the proper areas of the refrigerator.

For example, ensure that your fruit and vegetables are separated and kept in the specified fruit and vegetable drawers.  Keep your bread in the freezer.  Freeze your leftover soups, broths, or meals.

Grow your own Garden

Finally, my favorite tip is growing your own garden.  This can be done on a patio or balcony in addition your little backyard garden.  When you grow your own tomatoes, green onions, basil and lettuce, you know that you didn’t add any pesticides to them and you can grow a large volume of lettuce (enough to last you an entire summer, really) by spending $1.29 for a seedling.

Besides, nothing gives you more satisfaction than eating something that you grew yourself! (Yes, that grade 2 excitement of growing your own food doesn’t wear off!)

Conclusion

Unfortunately, food inflation is here to stay.  As foods get more expensive, we must find other ways to keep our monthly expenses low, without cutting corners on nourishing our own bodies.  Hopefully these tips of getting a chest freezer, buying in bulk, preventing food spoilage, and growing your own garden helps you to combat the upcoming and continued increase of food inflation.

The Cost of Insuring a Business In The Recession

This article is brought to you by AXA public liability insurance.

With the squeeze of the current recession being felt by just about every business, one of the first questions that arises when business owners consider the outgoing overheads, is the viability of whether they really do need to pay for all the current insurance coverage that they presently have in force.
Obviously, different types of busine
sses require different types of insurance policies, but there are some that are common to most businesses, and a prudent business owner will consider carefully before cancelling those policies which provide him with the best economic protection for his business. Whilst not essential to every business, the most common policies are summarised as follows: –

Buildings, Fixtures & Fittings and Equipment Insurance
If the building is owned by the business or the tenant is held responsible for damage to the building under the terms of a rental agreement, then this insurance is essential, should the building become damaged by fire, storm or indeed virtually any eventuality. Very few businesses could personally suffer a major loss of this nature and of course the same would apply to any fixtures and fittings, specialised equipment, such as machinery or large amounts of computer hardware, that are contained with in the building.

Stock Insurance
Be it a small corner shop, a commercial retailer or a product warehouse, any loss or damage to a business' stock-in-trade could have a catastrophic effect on a business viability and therefore it is in that business' interest to ensure that any damage to stock is fully protected by appropriate insurance.

Employers Liability Insurance
Any individual, partnership or large business employing one or more staff is responsible under the law for any injury or damage occasioned to the staff member, whilst carrying out the terms and conditions of their employment. Claims for personal injury and the like have steadily increased over the years and it therefore makes economic sense to protect and employer's legal obligations with an insurance policy designed to cover losses of this nature.

Public Liability Insurance
A business owner is responsible for any damage or injury caused to members of the public who are legally visiting the business premises, normally regardless of how the damage or injury may be caused. Once more, such claims have been increasing in value over the years and for any business owner to envisage personally settling potentially large amounts in the event of a claim, could have a severe detrimental effect upon the continuing viability of that business.

Concluding Remarks
A business should never pay more than is necessary for insurance and therefore it is essential that relative sums insured be kept under close review. This will ensure that the correct premiums are paid whilst at the same time making sure that there is sufficient coverage to protect the company in the event of claims being made against them. The maximum "neither too much nor too little" is never more appropriate than in this current recession.

Cirque du Soleil La Nouba

On our upcoming vacation to Florida in September, we will be attending the Cirque du Soleil show La Nouba in Orlando

Anyone familiar with any Cirque du Soleil show knows that it is a marvel of amazing human acrobatics, coupled with a fantastic storyline and truly dazzling costumes.

La Nouba focuses on two words colliding in an awe inspiring fashion, when the world of wonder meets the world of mundane and ordinary. It is a chance to enter the world of or childhood dreams and imagination where the worlds of our imagining and magic overcomes the sometimes dreariness of our everyday lives.

Two casts are present in the show. One is wearing extraordinary costumes in vivid colours representing the world of magic, while and other cast wears darker more plain colours representing the very ordinary. As these worlds collide you can only expect the magic and fire that is any Cirque du Soleil show.

We are big fans of these shows, and are very excited to see this resident show in Orlando that has been in the city since 1998.

La Nouba is a very fast paced show which are we are very excited to see on our Orlando vacation and will be sure to tell you all about it!

August is: National Foot Health Month

It is time to start pampering those tootsies as August celebrates our feet. It may seem a little odd to dedicate a whole month to the foot, but what better month to do it?

In August everyone is wearing sandals or walking around barefoot, and with that said we rely on our feet a lot more than we think. Our feet keep us mobile and help us maintain balance, so it is important to keep them healthy. Also, maintain proper toenail care and use lotion to keep you feet from drying out. We might sometimes forget that our feet need to feel loved too, so this month treat your feet to a pedicure or a trip to the podiatrist.

This month be sure to visit our friends who also care about your feet:

-daniPro (USA only)-daniPro is the first nail polish created by a podiatrist with Undecylenic acid, a topical antifungal. Dr. Gary Evans, a New York City Podiatrist, saw the need to help his patients prevent nail fungus from forming.

  • Safe and effective
  • 4Free formulation:
    • - no formaldehyde
    • - no DBP
    • - no toluene
    • - no animal testing
  • Smooth application

  • Unique shaker ball ensures consistency

-This National Foot Care Month, give your feet the long-term cushion and comfort they need with OrthoLite, the world’s leading provider of open cell foam insoles, providing high-quality, comfort products that help elevate the overall performance of your footwear.

The Ultimate in Fun- a Game of Pool

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Generally, as a species, humans love to play games. Starting from riveting games of “peek-a-boo” as toddlers, the fierce battles of tag on the school playground, some of us even enter the most challenging and daunting of games such as the Olympic games happening currently in London.

Thankfully, we have also devised a number of fun adult games for those of us who have outgrown the challenges of hide and go seek, or those for whom a triathlon just does not qualify as fun.

Playing pool is considered by many to be the ultimate in fun adult game playing. Since it can be a very social game it is also a great opportunity to get together with a bunch of friends, grab a few drinks and practice those pool skills.

When buying a pool table there are some factors that can be overwhelming to a novice. Liberty Games, the largest pool table supplier in the UK (with international shipping also available) can help answer any burning questions that you may have. All you would have to decide is whether a traditional table with all it’s artistic decor best suits your needs or whether the sleek style of a modern pool table would work best for you. There are many styles available, including coin operated tables which would be a fun and cost effective addition to many places of business. There are pool tables made with luxury in mind as well as those build to withstand the outside elements. For more information please click here.

John Paul Pet Care Products

Sunday, August 5, 2012

Most of us have suffered through our share of bad hair days, including our canine companions.

Recently, I reviewed some John Paul Pet, dog care products on my test subject aka my dog Jake. I especially loved the dog shampoo  which is specially formulated to bring out the shine in a dog’s fur, and soothe their skin. Jake’s hair looked and smelled wonderful after his bath.Gerry and I even noticed a shinier coat after the wash, dry and brushing. And the hair was so soft.

To manage even the most difficult of hair coats, John Paul Pet even offers conditioners which are sure to help detangle some matted fur coats. Furthermore there is a line of dog wipes formulate for three areas of the body including, eyes and ears, teeth and gums as well as body and paws to keep you pets clean and healthy with minimal wrestling involved.

John Paul Pet also offers products for some of our other favorite companions such as cats and horses, sure to please any pet lover.I know I am a big fan now of his products for my Jake.
