Keeping Your RV/ Camper Bathroom Looking and Smelling Clean

Saturday, February 25, 2017

When you live half the year out of your RV/camper, like us, it becomes your home. And just like your home back home, you want to keep it looking and smelling clean.

I've come across some great products from a company called Valterra that I wanted to share with you, that I recently tried for the bathroom.

Toilet Paper-

We all need this! 2 ply and clog free. Great to use if you are RV use toilet paper only. We all need toilet paper and Valterra is a great brand to use.

Pure Power Blue Drop In Singles-

The Pure Power Blue Drop In Singles are a must have to control black water odor and break down waste. The  drop ins have a wonderfully nice scent to them as soon as you open the bag and are environmentally friendly. One packet will treat a 40 gallon holding tank. We love this brand as they do their job.

And to have a wonderfully clean and refreshing bathroom, I totally recommend the Micro Power Bathroom Cleaner-

Not too strong, does a great clean job and the smell is so very nice. It cleans and deodorizes and really leaves your bathroom smelling awesome! It can also be sprayed anywhere in the bathroom, and makes a wonderful toilet freshener too.

What is Wealth Management? And Can YOU Benefit from It?

Friday, February 24, 2017

Wealth management is, in short, the whole package. Wealth management companies like Sanlam Private Investments provide the full range of financial services from investment advice to accounting, retirement planning to tax services, all for a single set fee.

What Are the Benefits?

The main benefit of wealth management is that it consolidates matters and makes managing your financial life that much simpler. Whatever you need in regard to your money, you can go to one place and discuss the situation.
Typically you will work with a single adviser that you will come to know and trust, with whom you can develop a long-lasting working relationship. This is not only more comfortable than the somewhat detached relationship many of us have with our banks, it also means that the agent in question will really get a good grip on your wants and needs over time and be able to fully tailor their advice to your unique situation.

While clients have a single point of contact, this doesn’t mean there’s only one mind at work when it comes to devising and implementing financial solutions for them. On the contrary, they consult with whole teams of specialists, combining the power of the personal touch from someone who knows your situation intimately with the breadth and depth of experience you can only get from many minds working in tandem.

Of course, one of the other most obvious benefits is that it is a service that can actually make you money. Properly managed investments will pay off enough to more than offset the price of the service and give you the funds to plan for your future or for further investments.

Is Wealth Management Right for You?

Many wealth management services have an emphasis on investment and creating a profit for their clients to make the fee worthwhile. This means it may be less suitable if you only have one or two needs, and investment doesn’t really figure into any of them.

The people in the best position to make use of wealth management are those with substantial capital who can reasonably expect to need to make use of a wide variety of services at any given time.

The fact that it centralizes all of the services it provides in one place makes it of particular value to those who do have this capital but don’t have a lot of time to spend on strategizing and allocating funds, so if you’re a successful entrepreneur with a packed schedule it may be the perfect thing for you.

Before and After with Aspect Peel & Stick Stone Tile

Sunday, February 19, 2017

The "in" thing for kitchens nowadays seems to include having a back splash.
Although there seems to be an influx of the same usual styles and patterns that one is seeing- almost a cookie cutter effect.

Gerry and I had been to one of the bigger home improvement centres not long ago and spotted a stone tile. This quality, lightweight and flexible product is made from genuine thin cut stone for the look and texture of designer stone tile for a fraction of the price you'd expect to pay. It has an easy peel and stick installation. It requires no grout and Gerry only used tin snips to cut the pieces to fit. It's great for any DIY home owner looking to update their kitchen. And in our case, our RV kitchen. Here is our kitchen before:

Watch the do it yourself video to see how easy it really is!

And photos of work done during the DIY and after -

The style shown here in our kitchen is the Aspect Backsplash-Stone Tile in Mossy Quartz. We chose this style as it seemed best suited for the black appliances and color scheme within the kitchen area.

It has made such a difference. Going from a simple painted wall to a classy looking back splash that you may only see in the higher end RV's. We really do love the new look!

Beacon Resources: Finance/Accounting Positions & The Retail Industry

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Like any industry, finance and accounting is critical to the successful operations of a business. The retail industry is no exception. With so many moving parts and constant competition, retailers are recognizing that enlisting the help of finance and accounting professionals is something that needs to be given thoughtful consideration. Utilizing finance recruitment agencies in Los Angeles, like Beacon Resources, can help simplify the process.

Why Retail?

With the ever-changing economy, retailers are constantly concerned with customers’ ability to maintain their purchasing habits. There is also the concern of access to funding for resources unique to brick and mortars. As the frequency of online shopping continues, retailers are experiencing many challenges with retaining customers. Competing on price and convenience combined with the expensive overhead that comes with running a retail outlet, makes having support from a finance/accounting position critical.

How A Finance/Accounting Position Can Help

Having a finance/accounting position on your retail team can make a huge difference in your ability to be successful. Aside from crunching numbers, there are a variety of ways this position can provide value to the business:

Securing funding for resources critical to operations
      Managing cash flow
      Overseeing costs
      Monitoring profitability levels
      Organization of financial documents
Communicating financial information with other departments

With many finance recruitment agencies in Los Angeles to choose from, finding one that will support your retail outlet and the needs specific to the retail industry is key. Beacon Resources specializes in finding placement for accounting jobs in Los Angeles and CPA jobs in Los Angeles. The team at Beacon Resources takes the time to fully understand the challenges and opportunities unique to your business to provide actionable and strategic solutions.

Tips for Re-Thinking Eating for Better Heart Health

February is a Heart Health Month, making it the perfect time to find ways to re-think what we eat in order to help lead us to better heart health. It’s an issue that most of us need to pay attention to, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. for both men and women. In fact, each year there are around 610,000 people who die from heart disease, accounting for 1 in every 4 deaths. Further, each year there are around 735,000 Americans who have a heart attack. The good news is that there are things we can do to help reduce our heart disease risk, with what we eat playing an important role.

“Considering how many times per day and week that we eat, it’s important to consider our food choices,” says Dr. Nimali Fernando, a Fredericksburg, Virginia-based pediatrician who founded The Doctor Yum Project. “This is especially true when it comes to our children, because their bodies are developing and they are learning habits that may last a lifetime.”

According to the CDC, some of the risk factors for heart disease include diabetes, being overweight or obese, having a poor diet, being physically inactive, and using alcohol excessively. Improving the diet is likely to also help with the weight and diabetes issues.

Here are some tips for helping to re-think your eating for better heart health:

·      Breakfast. Reach for whole grain toast, whole grain cereals and don’t forget a serving of vegetables and/or fruit. To get in even more servings, try a quick and healthy fruit and veggie smoothie, like the “Green Dragon Smoothie” featured on doctoryum.org.

·      Lunch. Pack a quick and healthy lunch that includes items like salads, hummus and veggies, tuna salad with wholegrain crackers or bread, or homemade low-sodium soups that you can make ahead of time and take a couple of days in a row. The “Meal Maker Machine” on doctoryum.org has a “Souper Soup recipe” that allows you to customize a soup recipe using ingredients on hand.

·      Dinner. Opt for seafood, which has heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Other good options include beans, salads with dressing, quinoa, whole grains, veggie burgers, chickpeas, lentils, and filling half of your plate with fruits and vegetables. Try to reduce processed foods, and fast food (which is often loaded with sugar and salt), high sodium foods, and unhealthy oils by cooking more at home.

·      Snacks. Skip the chips and cakes and opt for food like unsalted nuts, fruits and veggies, seeds, rice cakes, bell pepper slices, vegetables and hummus, or whole grain toast with all natural peanut butter.

·      Drinks. Leave the sugary drinks behind, and opt for water, sparkling water, plain soymilk, unsweetened coffee and tea, or water steeped with fruit.

·      Dining out. When dining out, opt for dishes that are lower in sodium and fat content, such as those that are baked, grilled, or broiled, rather than ones that are fried. Minimize the sugar intake by opting for unsweetened beverages and sticking to mostly fruits for sugar cravings. Choose seafood, fish, lean meats, vegetarian options, vegetable dishes, and beans. Portion sizes for restaurant meals tend to be oversized, so box a portion of your meal for lunch the next day.

“Heart healthy foods are all around us, it’s just a matter of opting for them over the other ones that are also available. Common barriers to eating healthy are cost, convenience and taste. By following the 3 P’s (prep, plan and prioritize) these barriers can be overcome” adds Dr. Fernando. “With some initial effort, we can all focus on eating healthier and feeding our children better. The more people make changes and stick to them, the more it will become a more natural habit.”

About The Doctor Yum Project: Founded by Dr. Nimali Fernando, The Doctor Yum Project is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to transforming the lives of families and communities by providing an understanding of the connection between food and overall health, as well as empowering them with the tools to live a healthy life. They offer a variety of community programs to help with those efforts. They are located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and feature an instructional kitchen and teaching garden for holding classes. To learn more, visit the site at: www.doctoryum.org.

Being Healthy On A #Budget

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

It’s the beginning of the year, and there’s always a buzz around healthy living. If you read tips in magazines, browse recipes, and look for workout hints, you may soon get anxious about the cost of being healthy. Once you’ve factored in gym membership and a shopping list filled with exotic fruits and seeds, you may be worried about how much this health kick could cost. The good news is that you don’t have to follow fancy diets or sign up to monthly payments to use the gym for the next 12 months. There are plenty of ways to be healthy on a budget.

Grocery shopping tips
Healthy eating is essential if you’re eager to get in shape, trim down or simply boost your health. Your diet provides you with the nutrients, vitamins, mineral, and fuel your body needs. Grocery shopping can be pricey at the best of times, let alone when you’re trying a new diet. However, there are ways of keeping costs down. Look out for coupons and vouchers, and try and shop online if you tend to get drawn in by offers and promotions. Use frozen fruit and vegetables instead of fresh, and buy poultry, meat, and fish, which is approaching its use by date. The prices will be lower, and you can put the items straight in the freezer.

Budget-friendly workouts
Many of us tend to think about joining a gym when the subject of exercise crops up. But you don’t have to sign up for membership to get fit. You can pay as you go at some centers or book classes as and when you want to go. There are also loads of activities you can do free of charge. Go jogging in the park, take your bike out, go rollerskating, take the dog for a long walk each day or do a DVD at home. If you’re interested in the gym, look out for special offers and deals. Sometimes, you can get a month’s free membership trial, for example. Use this, and see how you get on. If you love it, and you go frequently, it may be worth investing. If you go once in the entire month, it’s probably not worth your while signing up.

Shop around for insurance
If you already have health and dental insurance policies, it’s a good idea to shop around and see if you’re getting the best deals. Many companies save the best incentives for new customers, and as an existing subscriber, you may be missing out. The Internet makes comparing prices and policies very easy. In a matter of minutes, you can see exactly what you can get for your money. You can tailor your search to suit your budget, the level of cover you want, the number of people in your family and your location. You may prefer to search for dental plans near by, for example.

There’s an assumption that healthy living is costly, but this doesn’t have to be the case. It is possible to eat well, exercise regularly, and ensure you have access to the best health and dental cover without spending a fortune.

Review: Food for Life Ezekial 4:9 Bread/ English Muffins

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

Review by Gerry

Gerry recently tried some "healthy" for him Ezekial 4:9 Sesame bread and English muffins from Food for Life. Food for Life makes organic baked goods that support optimal health, and Food for Life's product names were inspired by Holy Scripture verses, such as this passage, Ez 4:9:

"Take also unto thee wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of it." Food for Life brings you health and vitality dating back to a simple time without food additives, colouring or chemicals.

Gerry liked the English muffins he tried because it stays together well when making a breakfast sandwich, had a good flavor and is a product that is a healthy food. The bread he found was not like a regular bread. It was more dense, but works better for toast eating than for sandwiches, for him, since he is used to a more softer, lighter bread for sandwiches.

Good for you food!

Sedona, #Arizona

Sunday, February 5, 2017

Day trip into Sedona with Jakey in tow- so just a few hours of sightseeing. Very busy area that Sedona! OMG- crazy with tourists! Lots of roundabouts too! Parked in an overnight BLM ( camp spot), outside of town- about 9 miles out, and drove in with SUV. Would not have been a big enough place for our 37' RV- not RV friendly. Beautiful scenery though.
