Backyard or Away From Home - It's Time For Camping Fun!

Wednesday, July 28, 2021

There’s nothing  like sitting around an open fire, whether it’s a fire pit in your backyard or a campfire out in the woods. Toasting marshmallows, ghost stories, listening to the great sounds of the outdoors, and smelling that fresh air...nothing makes summer more " summery" than camping!

Don't forget though when outdoors, that not only you love the summer- but so do those pesky bugs- and one thing your going to need is doTERRA’s TerraShieldTerraShield Outdoor Blend is your ideal safe and natural outdoor companion.

No matter where the summer takes you, you’ll want to have TerraShield on hand.  Its unique combination of Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Catnip, Lemon Eucalyptus, Litsea, Arborvitae, Nootka, and Vanilla Bean Absolute is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts. The addition of Tamanu oil provides skin-soothing benefits and through dōTERRA’s Co-Impact Sourcing®, the harvesting of Tamanu oil is positively affecting the livelihood of harvesters in Madagascar. TerraShield’s fresh, woody aroma complements all sorts of adventures. Available in both a 15mL bottle and 30mL spray, TerraShield Outdoor Blend is your ideal, safe, and natural outdoor companion.

Your going to need a blanket too while outdoors.

Cozen is a throw pillow with a comfy blanket tucked inside. It’s great for home, travel, kids, camping – anywhere you need a decorative throw pillow and/or comfy blanket. Simply open Cozen, slide your feet through and a comfortable blanket emerges. Zip it up, and it is the perfect throw pillow. With a cinch pull storage system, it can be easily transformed from blanket to pillow and back in seconds! On the sofa, it is a beautiful sofa throw pillow, and if you feel cold when watching TV, you can open it as a comfy blanket.

Cozen is great for backyard or backwoods camping because its interior quilt is made of a warm & durable yet soft synthetic material, which will stand the test of time and warm you up quickly from toes to torso. If it gets dirty, it is machine washable. And, it weighs just 1.3 lbs and when unfolded, the size of the quilt is 52 inches by 72 inches.

If you’re camping in bear country, we would suggest including SABRE’s Frontiersman Bear Spray-

SABRE’s FRONTIERSMAN 7.9 Ounce Bear Spray is an excellent choice for people who love to hike or camp in areas where bears are present. The idea behind an effective bear spray is to create as much distance between you and an aggressive or charging bear, which is what SABRE's 7.9 oz spray accomplishes with its 30-foot range and maximum pepper spray stopping power. But if your just camping in the back yard and want to practice using a bear spray, without it actually being pepper irritant, you can practice with Frontiersman Practice Bear Spray 7.9 ozSome men and women might feel slightly intimidated about how to properly use powerful bear spray, so SABRE created the Frontiersman Practice Bear Spray 7.9 oz

This inert spray does not contain any pepper irritant — yet it deploys in the exact same manner as our active spray, making it ideal for training and practice helps build confidence during use. SABRE products can be found in the US and Canada.

The Best Apps to Save You Money

Thursday, July 22, 2021

Sticking to a budget or low income can be difficult from time to time, particularly if you’d ever like to splash out just a little bit to treat yourself – the good news is that there are plenty of ways you can find some big savings, and we’re not talking about getting lucky on non gamstop slots or winning the jackpot, but more through ways that will accumulate over time and help you save money in the long run.

Honey – This comes as a browser extension rather than a dedicated app, but if you haven’t heard of it then it’s certainly something you should try. Once you reach the final stage of checkout, the extension will browse the internet for all possible promo or discount codes and apply them individually to find the best deal, you’re not always guaranteed a saving but with many of the bigger services you could get lucky and hit a big deal. All of the savings will definitely add up over time too, particularly on any bigger items, and the extra can be used to get yourself something you’ve been saving for.

Too Good to Go – This is an app that is hoping to tackle food waste in particular, each day you’ll be able to purchase a ‘Magic Bag’ for a cheap price that secures your name for a pick-up the next day, you’ll then go and collect your bag which is filled with items that are usually closer to their use-by date but still good to eat. Some of the best places are often tipped towards chains like Greggs, or local bakeries that have to take good off display at the end of the day. As you can’t pick what you’re getting, there’s no guarantee you’ll end up with something great, but there’s plenty of opportunities to get a great bag and stock up on some treats or food you may not usually get.

Karma – This one is similar to Too Good to Go but limited to London and some other regions in France and Sweden. Unlike the former, this tells you exactly what you’re paying for beforehand by connecting you to meals that are unsold, some of the prices can be up to 50% off so you can secure a great deal for some of the more expensive chains in particular. As you can choose what you’re having too, it gives you a lot more control over your spending, and you know exactly what you’re going to get each time, certainly worth checking out for some more variety in food options and serving as a great purpose to not only reduce food waste but also reduce the cost of eating out too.

Ethical Bean is Giving Canadians the Chance to Unwind and Elevate Their Coffee Break with Custom Space Upgrades

Friday, July 16, 2021

As Canada opens up, Ethical Bean is giving Canadians the chance to unwind and elevate their coffee break with custom space upgrades

For many Canadians, coffee breaks have been a moment of escape from the day-to-day while working from home. Recognizing the importance of these simple moments, Ethical Bean has teamed up with home design and lifestyle expert, Monika Hibbs to give Canadians the chance to redesign their favourite space to enjoy a coffee break, making it the perfect spot to reconnect with family and friends over a cup of coffee. Whether it is a backyard, balcony or cozy kitchen nook, three Canadians will receive a one-on-one design consultation from Hibbs, and $5,000 to put their plan into action and turn their favourite spot to sip into an everyday oasis.

As a coffee that not only tastes good but does good, fair trade organic coffee roaster Ethical Bean understands that organizations who have been giving back to their communities this year are especially deserving of a break. Ethical Bean identified Vancouver's The Kettle Society, a local non-profit that empowers people living with mental illness, substance use, poverty and homelessness, to be the first to receive an upgrade. They then worked with Monika Hibbs to create the ultimate upgrade for The Kettle Society, bringing in a local artist to help repaint an entrance mural, turning their community drop in space into an inviting lounge for their members, volunteers and staff to enjoy together.

"Canadians have always used their coffee breaks as moments to unwind, and after a year of travel-restrictions, this moment has become a coveted escape, and one we all deserve to enjoy," says Emily Oborne, Senior Associate Brand Manager at Ethical Bean Coffee. "As restrictions begin to lift, we know Canadians will be looking to reconnect with loved ones and update old spaces that have become too familiar over the past year."

In addition to rewarding three lucky Canadians with the chance to have a one-on-one consultation with Monika Hibbs and $5,000 cash prize for a home upgrade, Ethical Bean is also giving away 50,000 samples of their medium dark lush roast to coffee lovers living in the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Vancouver Area this summer.

"Throughout the last year, I've used my everyday coffee break as a moment of escape and understand how important having a comfortable space to unwind is," said Monika Hibbs, Home Design & Lifestyle Expert. "After having the chance to work on The Kettle Society's space, I am so excited to jump into the next project with Ethical Bean."

Canadians are encouraged to enter to win one of three Escape at Home upgrades, or for those living in the Greater Toronto and Greater Vancouver area's the chance to receive a sample of Ethical Bean's lush roast coffee samples at www.escapewithethicalbean.ca from July 8th - August 19th.

Another hot day! Put some water out for the birds in the yard and the fox that come around in the back- behind our place.

Saw one raven today that didn't even want to fly- just sat on the side of the road with his beak open- poor thing! Jakey goes out to do his business and I don't let him stay out too long- it's just too hot! How is the weather in your town city- and are you facing the heatwave as well? On another note about the heat, I was mortified to read about this poor dog

Picked up a cake today - a day past Canada Day- could NOT believe that it was regular $11.99 for this cake! I would NOT have paid that. We don't find clearance items too often. Alot of food is donated I believe, at our grocery store to the food bank- but the odd time the bakery does have some items reduced. Walmart used to have more, but not so much anymore- it's all a game to go searching for the clearance and I don't always have the time.

Getting my hair cut today- after 4 months! Gerry goes tomorrow.  I am still waiting till next week to get my roots done, as they were too busy to fit me in for both. It's been a long wait! All because of the Covid lock downs.

Our bathroom vanity top arrived today- was very impressed that I ordered it from Home Depot online- was shipped from Ontario and came all this way to Saskatchewan- luckily NOT broke, and we had free shipping! We will be painting the medicine cabinet and vanity instead of getting new ones.. as they are sooo expensive. Cheaper to paint. Should be able to sell the older top too from the other one and pick up a few bucks for that as it's still in good shape. Here is the photo of the new top.. putting Gerry to work again!

This one wasn't too happy about.. besides paying two taxes, also have to pay a levy fee on this tire- too many fees!

And this Summer , reduce harmful substances in tap water,  improve water taste and odor of your home drinking water. Enjoy Waterdrop, the water filter pitcher that will  provide fresh, tasting water to the whole family!

Review: Flex Seal Family of Products

Friday, July 2, 2021

Flex Shot® is the revolutionary super thick, rubber sealant to caulk, bond and seal virtually everything. Because it’s so thick, you can fill huge cracks and holes and stop tough leaks instantly. Flex Shot® comes out nice and thick and will cling to any surface. Then it turns into a stretchy rubber seal that’s virtually indestructible. The free extension tube makes even hard-to-reach repairs perfect every time.

We used the Flex Shot in our eaves trough where the two pieces met.

FLEX TAPE® is a super strong, rubberized, waterproof tape that can patch, bond, seal and repair virtually everything! FLEX TAPE® is specially formulated with a thick, flexible, rubberized backing that conforms to any shape or object!

During the Spring and while chipping ice out of the eaves-trough,  Gerry accidentally made a hole in the eaves. The Flex Tape was used to cover the hole, and is a fairly close match to the eaves trough in color.

FLEX GLUE® - an easy to use, super strong, rubberized, waterproof adhesive that instantly bonds, seals and repairs virtually everything! Flex Glue® is also a super thick adhesive clings to the surface and can be used on dry or wet surfaces… EVEN UNDERWATER!

Recently we had noticed the seal on our slide out on our RV had become detached. Gerry had applied a glue that had turned out to be inferior, as it stuck to the foam seal, but not the metal. Flex Glue was applied in the same area, and it has worked very well, and is now part of our Must Have's.
