Identity Guard Launches Enhanced Identity Theft Protection Service in Canada

One of North America’s leading providers of identity theft protection services is launching enhancements to its comprehensive credit and identity theft protection service, Identity Guard,  to help millions of Canadians better protect themselves from the growing threat of identity theft.

A unique new feature of the Identity Guard service - ID Verification Alerts – adds enhanced protection by alerting the consumer within minutes of when new credit card, loan or utility application requests are made. The real time ID Verification Alerts will alert the member of certain activity before it hits their credit report, enabling them to help protect against identity theft. The Identity Guard service also includes a Mobile App to allow members to stay up to date with “any time access” to their monitoring alerts, current credit score and other Identity Guard account benefits.

In 2014, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre reported there were more than 20,000 Canadian identity theft victims with a total reported dollar loss of more than $10 million.

Fraudsters are stealing and falsifying “breeder” documents – identity records such as social insurance numbers, birth or citizenship certificates -- to sign up for new credit cards, apply for loans, access bank accounts, and receive government benefits, all of which may go undetected for long periods of time.

“The Canadian market has experienced an unrelenting trend of increased activity around identity theft,” says Identity Guard Canada Vice President Sheila McCracken.  “With the Identity Guard service, we are able to provide Canadians with the tools and resources they need to better protect themselves from becoming an identity theft victim and help them to recover if their information is compromised.”

The Identity Guard service is built around an industry recommended three-step approach:
Monitor, Protect, Recover.

By enrolling in the Identity Guard service, Canadians won’t have to monitor their information at each of the Canadian Credit bureaus separately as this all-in-one service will monitor their information at both credit bureaus on their behalf and promptly alert them when certain changes to their credit reports are detected.

Canadians will also receive a quarterly report detailing changes in their credit score so they can stay on top of their credit rating.  If their personal information is stolen while they are enrolled in the service, agents from the Consumer Fraud Resource Centre are available to guide them through the process of recovery and resolution.

Through the Identity Guard Canada service, Canadians will receive:
  • Real time ID Verification Monitoring and Alerts
  • Mobile App for iPhones and Android Smart Phones
  • Credit monitoring at both Canadian bureaus
  • Prompt, up-to-date alerts when certain credit report changes are detected
  • Quarterly updates on their Credit Report and Score
  • Unlimited toll-free customer service located in Canada
  • Access to the Consumer Fraud Resource Centre
  • Option of either English or French fulfillment online

Consumers can sign up for a 30 day free trial, after which, they only pay $17.99 per month (includes applicable taxes).  For more information about the Identity Guard key features and to enroll, please visit www.identityguard.ca

Identity Guard is a proactive identity and credit protection service that delivers premium solutions to help busy families and individuals take control over their personal and private information.  Our services help educate and empower individuals to protect themselves from the growing threat of identity theft with premier identity protection and credit monitoring solutions.  Identity Guard is provided by Intersections Inc. (NASDAQ: INTX), which, since 1996, has protected more than 36 million consumers in the US and, since 2003, 2 million in Canada.

iHops New Fruit and Streusel Crepes- Only Till November 8th!

Fall is here, and IHOP® restaurants are starting the season off right with their new Fruit ‘N Streusel crepes. This latest culinary innovation from the iconic breakfast brand takes their popular Sweet Cream Cheese Crepes, layers them with your choice of delicious fruit toppings and sprinkles them with crisp and buttery cinnamon streusel crumbles.

The bits of streusel – a crunchy, buttery topping, made by combining brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, flour, graham cracker crumbs, honey and whole grain rolled oats – provide a craveable texture and flavor complement to IHOP restaurants’ delicate crepes.

“We’ve taken the classic streusel ingredients and created a mouthwatering buttery topping with a cinnamon and oat aroma and flavor with a crumbly texture,” said Marie Grimm, Vice President Menu Development and Innovation, International House of Pancakes, LLC. “Delicious and golden brown, our streusel pairs perfectly with our cream cheese filling and both the sweet and tart fruit toppings we’ve selected.

Guests can choose to enjoy this creative new treat in three different flavors at participating IHOP restaurants:

·         Berry Berry: A delicate crepe with signature IHOP sweet cream cheese filling. Topped with blueberries, glazed strawberries, and sprinkled with cinnamon streusel topping.

·         Sweet Peach A delicate crepe with signature IHOP sweet cream cheese filling. Topped with sweet peaches and sprinkled with cinnamon streusel topping.

·         Strawberry Rhubarb A delicate crepe with IHOP’s signature sweet cream cheese filling. Topped with delicious glazed strawberries & rhubarb bits then sprinkled with crunchy cinnamon streusel topping.
“Since day one in 1957, the food at IHOP has been giving breakfastarians a reason to come enjoy breakfast any time of day – and our Fruit ‘N Streusel crepes are no exception,” said Kirk Thompson, Vice President, Marketing, International House of Pancakes, LLC. “One taste and it’s clear – streusel and crepes were meant to be together and enjoyed morning noon or night!”

Guests can enjoy Fruit ‘N Streusel Crepes alone as an entrĂ©e or as a combo with eggs, done the way they like them, their choice of crispy bacon, pork sausage links or a slice of grilled ham, and IHOP restaurants' signature golden hash browns, at participating restaurants.

Fruit ‘N Streusel crepes will be available at participating IHOP restaurants from September 21 until November 8.

We had a spot above the RV door that seemed to be missing something, and since we are in the process of renovating, Walmart's Home Trends 3D Mariposa Flowers Wall Decor caught my eye while I was in the store.

These add excitement to any room in your home, or RV/camper for that matter.

The wall trim was also very easy to apply, and can adhere to any wall or other smooth surface.Gerry and I had these out of the package and up on the wall within 10 minutes, and now our wall doesnt look as boring.

Book Review: The Broke and Beautiful Life: Small Town Budget, Big City Dreams

My recent book I have on the go- and near done reading..

The Broke and Beautiful Life: Small Town Budget, Big CityDreams. This book is  written by Stefanie O'Connell. She moved to New York to become a Broadway actress, and then was faced with unemployment. She learned how to  manage her money after she started getting in debt. I have been enjoying this book. There are alot of great money saving and money making tip ideas throughout this book for knowledge. And a great book if you are like me and not interested in a book on investing, but simple everyday tips.

This book is full of insight and humor. And is filled with important money management lessons. The Broke and Beautiful Life offers practical strategies in order for you to make smart financial decisions. Stefanie offers personal advice on how to budget your money. And the book is great for readers who might usually shy away from financial advice books. This is a keeper for anyone who loves personal finance books.

My Review of SOLE - Footwear Making a Positive Impact

Sole is a Canadian shoe company, that was founded in 2001. Their goal is to make a positive impact on people’s lives. And they have a solution to help people who may have foot pain. They make custom Footbeds and Footwear that are adapted to your unique needs.

Their products are guaranteed to have some of the best cushioning and support. And they are customized for each user. Sole shoe’s have an orthopedic shape.  They also have mould optimized materials in them. All their footwear and footbeds have that built into them. So they adapt to your feet and you won’t lose support.

I tried a pair of flip flops and shoe inserts for a better foot support, since I tend to walk more to the side with my feet, and as well, have a bunion on one foot from a foot injury years ago. Having the support from the Sole shoes and inserts optimizes the foot's natural functionality. I feel I can really benefit from the personalized support and cushioning that the Sole products have to offer, and look forward to taking "a better step forward" so to speak!

Review and Giveaway: (Canada only) Coleman's Fyrecadet 2 Burner Propane Stove

While looking for an outdoor propane stove for when we are out with the RV and want to cook outdoors, we came across the Coleman Fyrecadet 2 burner propane stove.

It has large burner diameter for wider heat distribution and more even cooking. It also has uniform flame holes which give it a larger heating area. The burner design will also help with wind exposure, which is great for your outdoor cooking. The new technology in this stove eliminates the need for the side panels. And will allow for bigger pots and pans to be used on it.

There is a cooking space that allows for a 12 inch pan on one burner and a 10 inch one on the other. It is an aluminized cooktop that is very easy to clean too. It has independent burners, with separate controls. You can use it to boil or to simmer. The Fyrecadet stove uses propane cylinders to heat.

We cooked some veggies in a pot while bbqing on the deck, just to try it our before we take it on the road next month. It really is quite a nice stove.

It will be great to have while traveling and we highly recommend this make and model for camping on the road.

This NEW Innovative stove is available @ Walmart or Canadian Tire

Coleman Canada would love to give away one of these cook stoves to one lucky reader in Canada.

A random draw will be made by Random.org on September 28, 2015 from all entries received.

Top 4 Reasons You Need Life Insurance

Every day, we talk to individuals who need life insurance. Often, these individuals don’t know which type of life insurance they need or how the process works.

However, they always know one thing: they know the reason they need life insurance. When an individual comes to us, they often need guidance. We always start the conversation with a simple question. "If you die tomorrow, what do you need this money to do?" This may sound like a harsh question, but mostly it helps us have a better understanding of the reason someone needs coverage.

Here are the top answers we hear.

Leave my family mortgage free.

A mortgage is usually a family's largest liability. Owning a home free and clear will make sure your family is not uprooted from their home. Paying off your mortgage will also eliminate your family's largest monthly bill.

Fund my child's future education.

College is not cheap, and it’s getting more expensive every year. Life insurance can make sure your children have a chance to get the best education possible.

Replace my income.

Can your family pay their bills without your income? If they can't, we recommend buying at least 10 times your annual salary in life insurance death benefit.

Pay for my final expenses.

Funerals can be expensive, and most people don't want to stick their family with burial costs. The death of a loved one is hard enough without having to worry about your burial costs, which can be well over $10,000.

When trying to figure out the reason you need life insurance, always ask one question. What do you need the money to do if you die? Everyone needs the money to do different things. Once you ask yourself that question, you will know the reason you need life insurance.

If you would like to learn more about how to buy life insurance, you can check out our life insurance beginner’s guide here. It will help get you moving in the right direction.

Review: Monplaisir Delicacies, Calgary, Alberta

Review by: Erika

I pass by the Monplaisir Delicacies store everyday in Calgary's TD Square so I was pretty excited when I had the opportunity to review some of their french macarons!!

The staff at the flagship store were friendly and eager to help. I picked out 12 macarons from the colourful display case that housed 22 delectable flavours.

Upon opening the box at home, I was greeted with a stream of vibrant colours and an aroma of flavours , including one of Monplaisir's best sellers, Pistachio. After my first bite, I couldn't stop - the french macarons were so tasty!! Some of my favourites included the Nutella and coconut flavours while my boyfriend Jon really enjoyed the dark chocolate and moka flavours.

Monplaisir's french macarons are made with 95% Canadian ingredients and privilege local and organic suppliers directly from their brand new 2,700 square foot facility.

I've loved macarons ever since my first trip to Paris in 2013 and I would definitely recommend Monplaisir Delicacies if you're looking for authentic, quality tasting french macarons!!

Review: Weber Q1200

Traveling south soon, and doing alot of camping, Gerry wanted to make sure he had a portable grill with us. ( He does all the bbqing). We did have a cheaper model from a local store, but when presented with an opportunity to review Weber's Q1200, he was most interested.

The Weber Q1200 is the perfect grill for home use, traveling, or camping. It's compact and convenient to use this grill. It is fully assembled right out of the box so that is really great. Bonus!

It has one stainless steel burner and has plenty of room for cooking on. It also has 2 fold out work tables on the side, which are good to keep your supplies, etc, on while grilling. The 1200 has an electric, easy start ignition. It uses a disposable cylinders to fuel it, that you can purchase separately.

It also comes in a variety of colors too. From black, green, orange and more colors! I love the orange one we have- reminds me of Fall yet still a bit of a sunny, cheery color.

There are more item specifics such as a built in lid thermometer and removable catch pan. There are a lot of other features to the Weber Q 1200, that we really like. We plan on using it this Fall/Winter when we travel south in the RV. But and Gerry has already been trying it out. Loves it and  he says the Weber Q1200, although more expensive than our last one is of much better quality.
Thumbs up Weber!

Cons: none!
Pros: - large grill area for it's size
         - side trays a good feature
          -heavy cast iron grill
          -durable construction
          -provided accurate heat control
          -very comparable to bigger grills

Be sure to follow Weber Grills on Twitter
