Review: Demco Commander Tow Bar With Base Plate and Wire Kit

In 2015, we embarked on a Arizona winter trip, utlilizing a 2 car dolly to tow our 2008 SUV behind our class A motorhome. Although this was convenient, loading and unloading the SUV took between 10-15 minutes each time. It became very frustrating. As we drove through many states we observed the majority of RV's towing, 4 down with a tow bar. This was something that peaked my interest and had me looking into it further. As well, while in Quartzsite, Arizona, at the big RV Show there in January I had seen a few dealers of tow bars, and stuck up conversations. One in particular was Demco.

- ease of connecting
- 40 lb total weight compared to 1,000 + lbs ( resulting in better gas mileage)
- minimal storage required

I was sold- I decided this was something I just had to have. I ordered the Demco Commander tow bar, and it was delivered with easy to follow instructions. There is time involved however to do the installation of the base plate. It took me in total approx. 6 hours. The end result was worth it and I'd highly recommend one of these!

Follow Up on Pro-Mix Grass Seed

A few weeks back we did a review on Pro Mix products for our front and backyard. We fertilized as well as layed some grass seed in spots that were not too attractive looking. We thought the results were amazing over a 2 week period. 

We decided to change over our rock garden this year and cover it in with grass. 

We were going to put sod in but decided to use the seed instead.It has worked out very nice. And though not completely all in-( some patches still to the right on the join to the rest of the yard) , in 9 days you can see how far it's come!This has been a great product we tried and even my brother is now going to try it in his yard!

Our Last Day - Whistler, B.C

Didn't plan too much for our day today. While in Whistler today, we headed first for the Olympic Sliding Centre. It was host to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. But one can walk through the area even today. In July, August and September, you can even  take part in the Summer Bobsleigh program- check it out here! Your chance to actually try it out- if you have the nerve to! Of course you DO ride with a trained driver. 



It was an interesting spot to see, but there was alot of cougar and bear warnings around the track area and it was quite hilly so we didn't wander too far.

We wandered through Whistler Village today as well. The area is a compact, Chalet style pedestrian village, with over 200 shops amongst it's stone walkways. Just picked up a few souvenirs, as most shops were higher end and name brand shops, and the price tags on most things had us saying - "pass".


Once we finished there we had to look for the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Found it hard to find as we couldn't find any signs for it, but as a fluke, we stopped for directions at one location, only to find out the entrance way to it was right behind THAT building. 

It is a long way to the top- over 6,000 feet, and you'll take two sets of lift chairs with a combined time of 20 minutes,  before you get to the tram cars and ride 15 minutes across ( peak to peak). I don't suggest it to anyone obviously with issues with heights, or if it's not a healthy day for you- as it will take you a while to get to the top and there are no bathrooms along the way- first bathroom is about 20 minutes up. Also be sure to dress warm, and wear shoes and socks as it gets about 10 degrees cooler when you get up to the top and you'll feel the cool air on the lift chairs. The gondola cars are closed but not heated. And once your at the top there is a restaurant,more areas for viewing, washrooms and shop for souvenirs/clothing. It's for sure a once in a lifetime experience. If your with the kids, before you head up or when you come back down, there is a Family Adventure Zone area.

You can't miss this place though. Put this one on your Bucket List.

We also had a spa appt today for manicures, since I had gift cards from Way Spa, but spa visits are expensive and I ended up still paying over the cost of the gift cards I had.

We had a good day, asked for a late check out tomorrow and then on the road again. May also stop in Squamish and check out the used book store there and then on to Vancouver, where we'll catch our plane, and start heading home. Will be back home for Friday evening. It was a nice holiday, but time to get sure Jakey is missing us and our daughter Ria is still there visiting.


How to Look Younger Without Plastic Surgery, Make Up or Weight Loss

If surgeon’s scalpels and Botox fill you with fear there are less drastic approaches to looking and feeling younger that also do not include “snake oil” products or potions. 2)Sagging Cheeks

Use your face:  ‘Facial muscles are just like body muscles,’ says Dr. Calapai.  “The more you use them, the stronger they get and the less likely they are to sag and atrophy.” Try this quick cheek workout  to help build up sagging facial muscles: look in a mirror, smile as broadly as possible while keeping your lips closed and mouth corners turned up.  Try to make your mouth corners touch your ears.  Next, wrinkle your nose and see your cheek muscles move upwards.  Stay like this for a count of five, then relax.  Repeat 10 times.

3)Drooping  Brow- Acupuncture
Pin it up! Half of Hollywood is allegedly hooked on the face-saving, radiance-boosting power of cosmetic acupuncture.  According to experts, it stimulates skin cells to lay down new collagen fibers under wrinkles, ‘filling them in’ literally while also toning different muscles to restore glow.  The added bonus is that most cosmetic acupuncturists treat underlying problems that could be causing your skin to look older, such as insomnia and bad digestion.

4)Have More Sex
Having sex at least 3 times per week can make you look up to 10 years younger and according to Dr. Dr. Calapai. Having more sex is the next best thing you can do after exercise to look younger because it also helps you to naturally release more growth hormones and it's been proven that having more sex can help you live longer.

5) Don't eat Too Much Sugar
“Too much sugar in your diet will lead to an age accelerating process in your body known as glycation and glycation does damage to the collagen in your skin making you lose skin elasticity causing wrinkles to appear,” affirms Dr. Calapai.

6) Exfoliation is pivotal to facial rejuvenation
 "Ultimately, it increases dermal volume, making skin look less wrinkly." It will also help brown spots. You can use a physical exfoliant, like a scrub, or a chemical exfoliant, such as a glycolic,” says Dr. Calapai.

7) Start Intermittent Fasting
The 2 main reasons why intermittent fasting makes you look younger is because
intermittent fasting naturally increases your human growth hormone which amps up the production of collagen for younger looking skin. Dr. Calapai explains that, “Intermittent fasting induces autophagy where the cells in your body repair themselves to make a newer much healthier cell to prevent aging.”

8) Exercise
You may think you carry your age in your face, but people “guess” your age by how you move. The youthful figure is thin, muscular, flexible, and strong. Your exercise program should include lots of cardio (this allows you to move around without huffing and puffing—a definitely “geezer” give-away), training with free weights, and some flexibility exercises.

9) Improve Your Posture
One of the biggest give-aways for looking old is a curved back, slumpy sitting, and shoulders that ride up too high with respect to your neck Dr. Calapai recommends. fixing your posture by thinking of the top of your head as a flat surface and then try to get that flat surface as tall as you can. Consciously push down your shoulders. Do this as you walk and sit. Take a “posture check” as often as you think about it during the day. Young people may not have perfect posture, but correcting your posture will make you look more youthful.

10) Resolve to eat more oily fish
Or failing that, high-grade fish-oil supplements. Dr. Calapai says that, “None of us consume enough essential fatty acids, which as well as helping our brains to function more smoothly are considered vital to keep skin-cell-membranes in good health and therefore stop the skin from getting too dry.”

Leaving Victoria and Heading Towards Whistler

We caught the ferry this morning out of Victoria and headed back to Vancouver, which was about 45 minutes from hotel to ferry, then and hour and a half on the ferry to Vancouver, then about another half hour at least to leave out of the city. Once out of the city we hit the beautiful Sea To Sky Highway which is very nice. 

Stopped at the Britannia Mine Museum as well. I thought it would be a great place for Gerry to see having worked in the mine and FOR the mine. Britannia Mine was an old copper mine and mill, shut down in the 70's. While there we got to go on an underground tour in a man carrier, and see the mill, as well as pan for gold- which really is time consuming looking for bits of rocks. Plus I give up EASY! It was informative.. enjoyed our time there.

After we left there we headed up the highway a bit to see Shannon Falls, @ Shannon Falls Provincial Park. You can just park and walk in a little ways to the falls. No entrance fee. This water fall is the 3rd largest in B.C..

Seemed to use most of our day today getting from point A to no more news for today... just an early night in tonight.


Our Second Day in Beautiful Victoria, B.C

( Note: this post was suppose to go up last night but due to the fact that we got in the room later yesterday, I just didn't have the energy to finish it here is what we did yesterday.)

We were up early again today- which was great for us to get an earlier start to the day.

We made our first stop at the BC Parliament Building - free to get in, and your bags are checked just like they do in the airport plus you walk through a scanner. The grounds and front of the building are wonderful to see, and there is even a totem pole on the property. Lots and lots of offices inside and there was even a closed doors meeting going on that we could see through the glass. 

After we went there we were off to the IMAX Victoria theater which is very close to the Parliament Building. We saw the "Mammoths Titans of the Ice Age."- a 45 minute movie that keeps you interested right through. Like all IMAX movies- they truly do amaze. This movie is complimenting the exhibit that is currently on at the B.C Royal Museum June 3- Dec. 31, 2016. The room comes alive when this movie plays- the picture, the sound, the music- everything goes together so well and the mammoths are so life like. IMAX you always outdo yourself.

If your going to the IMAX and haven't been to the Royal B.C Museum, your right there already-  as both are in the same building, so stop over. We took in their recent exhibits today including the Mammoths Giants of the Ice Age and Our Living Languages- First People's Voices in British Columbia. Had a great time- plan your own visit today.

Our last stop of the day was a trip out of the downtown area to The Butchart Gardens- about a 20 minute drive- over to Brentwood Bay.  

This place was so busy! It reminded Gerry and I of Disney world because it was so busy! People everywhere enjoying the beauty of the flower gardens. I read that over a million visitors come though the gardens each year. Man that is alot!
They have beautiful flower gardens as well as places to stop for gelatto, coffee and drinks, food, and a huge gift shop for souvenirs or your own personal shopping . An information station is available on the property as well for those with questions. We saw so so many plants and flowers and the place is very well looked after. And should you need a rest on your long walk down the many pathways, there are also sitting benches at many spots along the paths. The Butchart Gardens is also a National Historic site so not one to miss.

We had another great day and one that will come to an end here in Victoria , tomorrow, as we cross back on the ferry towards Vancouver and head up the coastline.
