Monday- December 31st
Monday, December 31, 2012
Just wanted to wish everyone a safe evening tonight for those that will be out and about.
Gerry and I will be at home watching "Looper" tonight, and no doubt earlier than 12 to bed.
Took all the decorations down both inside and out, yesterday and today.
Gerry has been off work since December 24th, so enjoying his time off but back to work on Jan. 2nd. We've been sleeping in and living the lazy life. He's also been taking Jake outdoors for his short walks for me, so that's been great, as I hate the cold! (Gerry has 5 1/2 years left till retirement.)
Didn't do any Boxing Day sales as we really didn't need anything. I see Walmart has alot of their Christmas cards, decorations and candy on sale, but the prices have not come down enough yet for me, to tempt me to buy anything. There had been some good buys on food though. I have alot of bags, wrap, tags, etc for next year so won't be needing to buy any of that this year.
This year I was downsizing my Santa collection and starting to collect angels, but I haven't seen too many of those around. Gerry had got me a mini clock with an angel child and an angel ornament with tea light to start my collection though.
Time to watch the movie though, so once again everyone, have a safe and happy evening, with all our best wishes to you and your family in 2013.

Ten Money Fantasies That Make You Sound Stupid
Wednesday, December 26, 2012
Many people spend a lot of time thinking and planning for things that are not easy to undertake. Living in a fool’s paradise is perhaps the best one could think of after listening to what they rely on to make their future financially secure. Absurd ideas to build financial wealth make these people suffer later in the years when they realize that they do not have a single financial cushion to fall back on.
However, the fact is the not every book that one writes goes onto become a best seller, and not every novice corporation makes it to the NYSE. Here are the top ten money fantasies that make you sound stupid.
1. I Will Win Money through the Lottery
Your chances of winning lottery are 1 in 175,711,536. This information is enough to make out your chances of winning money randomly. Even if you participate in all the lotteries available to you, you cannot depend on the probability of winning them to spend the rest of your life. It is much better to work towards getting a job that would help earn as well as save money for the rainy days.
2. You Intend To Write the Next Bestseller
Writing the next best seller is what every novice writer aspires to do. There are lots of manuscripts waiting approvals from the editors and literary agents to able to make it big. Even if you able to get published, there are not great chances that you will be able to make big bucks out of it. Moreover, there haven’t been many that have been able to spend the rest of their lives depending upon the money earned through having a book published.
3. I Will Make Big Out Of My Small Business by Taking It to Oprah
Even if you have a flourishing coconut flan delivery service, Oprah won’t be interested to have it on her show. Though it’s a fact that whoever makes it to her show becomes a best seller instantly, you better calculate the probability to make it to the show. In fact, you better create small goals and take steps towards achieving them.
4. Spending More Money
There’s a great difference between buying what you need and what you can afford to buy. Spending cash when in need of something is nothing bad, but spending money thinking that you deserve to spend it is not the right kind of attitude. You definitely deserve all the cash that you earn. However, thinking to spend it the way you want is not right. Sites like, Consolidated Credit can assist with free debt consolidation advice.
5. Planning To Marry Rich
This is good for people who are not able to stand on their own two feet. You can do this, but do not make it your career goal. It is not good when you act powerless in front of your family and friends since it gives them an impression of your incapability to make it on your own. Instead, work towards getting a better job by going back to school. Getting back to school means you can make all the big bucks on your own rather than waiting to hunt a rich person to get married to.
6. I Will Get Richer Through Inheritance
Depending on inheritance doesn’t make you rich forever. Working towards multiplying it will do so. It may also be that the inheritance that you receive goes out to paying for the educational expenses of your children, or even paying out debt.
7. A Rich Relative
There are some people who believe that they can receive large sums of money as gifts from their relatives by helping them in their old age. This is the most imprudent way of expecting to get cash rich instantly.
8. Planning To Become an Actor/ Singer to Earn Cash Overnight
You cannot spend your entire life thinking of becoming the next superstar by uploading a video on a social networking site. Earning riches needs a lot of prudent planning and hard work. Planning to become an actor or singer instantly is not a wise option.
9. Starting Own Business and Making It Big In A Short Period
Starting a business is a risk and risking it by making the wrong moves to make big out of it is foolishness. You should take small steps and plan making it bigger through your long terms tactics.
10. Asking the Government for Help
The government does not issue grants to help people get rich. Instead, it helps people the other way through transparent processes.
Conclusion
Fantasizing about money cannot be substantiated anyways. The fact is that not every other book can become the next fifty shades of grey and even overnight successes are not a piece of cake. However, you can earn substantial sums of money by planning rationally to start a business or even getting other means of income.

Treating Yourself This Holiday Season
This time of the year we are busy running around getting gifts for everyone else, so now is a great time to get something just for ourselves.
Groupon or Living Social type vouchers are a great way to buy deals on a product or a service at a deeply discounted price. These vouchers have a time limit during which they should be used, it is estimated, however, that between 20%-40% of vouchers are forgotten or simply the buyer never ends up using them. Coup Flip has launched a service that allows people to buy and sell deals, such as unused Groupon or Living Social vouchers. You can shop deals according to the category (such as travel, food and dining, clothing etc) your location or price. The vouchers are guaranteed to be authentic and valid by coup flip. They can be valid for several months and up to a year, leaving you plenty of time to use them.
What if you have a bought a group buy deal with all the best intentions of using it, only to realize that you will not have that opportunity before the deal expires? You can now simply sell deals to another user on Coup Flip, which sets a competitive price for the unused deal. As soon as you resell Groupon or another deal, and the group buy is authenticated you get money back in your pocket. Since there are no fees to use this service it is a hassle free way to recoup your losses.
Right now Coup Flip is running a holiday special with 25% additional discount offered on top of Groupon or Living Social discount. The company is now launched in 40 US cities so a great deal can be found just around the corner.
Now that is something worth flipping for!
Wishing All My Readers, A Safe and Happy Holiday Season
Monday, December 24, 2012
I just want to take this moment to wish all my wonderful readers a safe, healthy and happy holiday season.
It will be a quiet one for us. Ria is in the Bahamas with her boyfriend and not back home till Christmas evening. The girls will both be coming over however, with their boyfriends Boxing Day for supper. This year too, will be our first Christmas with our new dog Jake, who is like one of our kids.He loves when parcels come in the mail, opening boxes to see what I am reviewing, so he'll love when we start opening gifts tomorrow morning.
Alot of our family members do not talk with one another so it's unfortunate, but we won't be having a big, happy family get together.
Very cold here as well. -32 with the windchill today. Gerry is picking up some last minute food items at the grocery store today. He gets off work early then has about a week off work so that will be very nice for the both of us.
Ria is coming home to an empty fridge. Her breaker somehow got kicked while she was gone. Having only ferrets to feed dry food, no one went in the fridge, till a few days went by, then my brother who takes them out to play in the evenings, opened it and noticed. Too late and everything was warm. We had to throw almost everything out!
Erika is also having troubles at her apartment,(both run by the same landlord but different location in town). She's got a leak within the walls and water running under the tub. Can't get the plumber over till at least Jan. 2nd. Most times Gerry will fix things for the girls but this is something someone else will have to look at.
I just wish the weather were warmer.. brr it's cold here! Hopefully it will warm a bit over the holidays so I can go out for a skidoo ride with Gerry. I hate the cold.
We just got a new, used truck. Gerry traded in his smaller truck for a 4x4, full sized truck, but it worked out to pretty much the same payments.Gas will be not bad for it as well. Much better in the snow and for hauling for him.He is quite happy with it. It's a bit older than what we had by 2 years I think, but looks new and still has a year warranty on it.
Enough of my rambling though. Happy Holidays Everyone!

HP Study Shows Canadians Too Busy to Enjoy Holidays
Friday, December 21, 2012
According to a new national survey from HP Canada and Ipsos Reid, the vast majority of Canadians (96%) say spending quality time with family and friends is what is most meaningful around the holidays. But one in five Canadians (21%) are too busy with holiday preparations to do exactly that. Interestingly, even though many Canadians (72%) say receiving the gift they want is not important, almost half (48%) find that shopping and wrapping gifts takes up most of their free time during the holidays.
HP Canada wants to inspire Canadians by showing how they can spend valuable time together and save time and money on holiday preparations, with the launch of HP Holiday Headquarters. From festive ornaments and decorations to gift boxes and photo calendars, HP Holiday Headquarters offers a huge selection of easy, affordable and time-saving templates, plus advice and tools to make this year’s holiday season preparations a truly enjoyable opportunity to bring family and friends together.
HP Holiday Headquarters also offers Canadians particularly meaningful tools to personalize their greetings this season. Asked how they will express holiday greetings this year, nearly a third of Canadians (29%) plan to write cards and letters and approximately the same number (30%) say they prefer to receive cards or letters.

small gifts that often can bring a great smile to the recipients face.
This is a great opportunity to give some practical items that may not be
ideal as a main Christmas gift, or choose gifts that are fun or whimsical in
nature. Who knows, you may even spot St. Nick!

A Friend and a Cup of Coffee
During this busy season it is great to unwind, or meet up with a friend over a cup of delicious coffee.
Coffee has transcended our culture from being just a warm drink to a huge part of our day to day lives. These days you do not have to venture into a coffee shop to enjoy a unique, fresh brew; you can do so right in the comfort of your own home, saving you both time and money.
So this holiday season make sure to enjoy both the great taste and the experience a good cup of coffee can offer.
Review: Balsam Hill Holiday Wreath
One of my favorite things during the holiday season is looking at all the Christmas decorations around the neighborhood. Each house and family decorates just a little bit differently, thus bringing individuality into their holiday traditions.
When looking for some stunning holiday decor, look no further than Balsam Hill. The company offers a multitude of holiday decorations, including artificial Christmas trees, ornaments and accessories for them, wreaths and garlands as well as many others. The pieces are so realistic and stunning that they are the choice for top set designers for shoes such as Oprah and Ellen.
This year we have had the chance to feature a stunning Greenbrier Mountain Pine Christmas Wreath featuring holly leaves, red berries, long pine needles and twigs. It is the first year that we have a wreath on our home and I must say it boosts the merriment of the season every time we see it. The goal at Balsam Hill is for you to enjoy a picture perfect, hassle-free Christmas.
And with the beautiful and realistic decorations from Balsam Hill, you don’t have to just hear carols about a winter wonderland, you can live within it.
Affordable Holiday Gift Ideas - Christmas Cookies In A Jar
Monday, December 17, 2012
There are few things that say “Christmas” quite like holiday cookies. If you want to give a gift from the heart this year that helps express the excitement of the holiday season, creating Christmas cookies in a jar is the perfect way to share your enthusiasm for the spirit of the season. They’re easy to create, aesthetically pleasing, and one of the most useful gifts you could offer this year.
Step 1: Choose a Recipe
Before you can even begin to select the right jar to meet your needs or purchase the ingredients from the grocery store, the first thing you have to do is choose a recipe that you like. It may help to actually bake a few of the cookies on your own to decide which one is your personal favorite. Unfortunately, there are many to choose from. Whether you want to go with the traditional “emergency cookies’ packed with quick oats, cranberries, and white chocolate chips or you’d prefer something a bit more exciting like M & M cookies or you even want to go with something completely different like Christmas Crunch cookies, the key here is to choose a recipe that gives you a chance to create beautiful layers inside the jar, so you’ll want a variety of different ingredients to help build that amazing look. One of my favorite recipes is Cowgirl cookies because they look beautiful layered in a jar. You can find the recipe at The Larson Lingo along with a free printable label like the ones shown in the photo below.
Step 2: Select a Jar
Every recipe is going to require a different sized jar, and if you’ve never done this before, you may have a bit of trial and error on your hands. I've found that the best choice is to use a quart-sized Mason jar, as that’s the most traditional option here. You can pick them up at a local craft store like Michaels. In some cases, though, you may have to go smaller or larger depending a bit on which recipe you choose. If you’re planning in advance, you can keep your costs down by purchasing your Mason jars at the right time of year. In the late fall, well after summer gardening season has ended, stores often put their canning supplies on sale, like their complete stock of Mason jars, helping you save quite a bit on your holiday gift budget. You can also often pick up vintage Mason jars for less than you would imagine at antique and thrift stores.
Step 3: Fill your Jar
To complete this step, you may want to have a wide-lid jar or a funnel large enough for each of your ingredients to go through. It helps to make the layering process easier. Add each of your ingredients to the jar, one by one, pressing each layer down with the back of a spoon. If you want to get really creative, when you’re finished, take a skewer or a knife and press it down the sides of the jar, like you might with a child’s sand art project, to create beautiful patterns in the layers.
Step 4: Decorate your Jar
Once it’s filled, add to your jar a bit. Choose a pretty holiday fabric to put on top as well as a matching ribbon. Put stickers on the jar or paint it. Get creative with whatever you think will look best, because it will make the gift look a bit more attractive in the end.

Step 5: Attach the Recipe
They can’t create your amazing cookies if you don’t add the recipe, so copy it onto an index card or some matching scrap booking paper, punch a hole in the corner, and add it to the jar with a bit of beautiful ribbon. Or print out the free stickers with directions from the Cowgirl cookie example shown below.
In either case, you'll have a beautiful handmade holiday gift for friends and family.

Sunday-A Good Day To Organize the Pantry and Fridge
Sunday, December 16, 2012
I always try to keep my fridge and pantry organized and free of outdated food. This means using up what you do have before it has a chance to expire or not buying too much to begin with.
My pantry is "unusually" full and only because we only got our Santa's Choice boxes in earlier this month-over $1,000 in food, which we froze, stored, and shared things WE didn't eat, with family and the food bank.( Please let me know if I can refer you..as my name can get entered into a cash draw!)
Let today or this week, be a day you clean out YOUR fridge and pantry. Washing the insides of shelves, wiping off bottles and jars, and checking for expiry dates on your food.
Iams Home For The Holidays
The Iams Home 4 the Holidays program is now in its 14th year of helping shelter animals find their forever homes.
To help mark this milestone, Iams provided an exclusive gift basket filled with amazing pet supplies that are sure to help taking care of Jakey a breeze!
Jakey says: Thanks Iams!
Kids Upgrade Snacks for Santa Keeping Milk Safe until Santa is Ready to Sip
Wednesday, December 12, 2012
It’s a longstanding Christmas Eve tradition to leave out cookies and milk for Santa. But what happens if kids pour a big glass of milk for Santa before they go to bed around 9 p.m. – but then he doesn’t arrive until well after midnight? It’s not going to taste fresh, and might even be not safe to drink.
A better idea is to leave out a shelf safe milk box with those cookies. It’s Grade A, real milk that doesn't require refrigeration until it’s opened (no preservatives added). Single-serving milk boxes – similar to juice boxes – can be stored in the pantry for up to six months without refrigeration.
Santa can take the convenient carton with him to sip in the sleigh as he heads on to the next house…without worrying about spilling!
Holiday Gift Guide for Children
Most of us know that it is better to give than to receive. The reaction you can receive from a well chosen gift can be priceless and well worth the hours of searching. If you are looking for the best reactions possible, it is even better to give gifts to children. A child’s face can really light up as their tear through that gift wrapping paper, to get to that coveted gift inside. Their emotions are unbridled and the joy is evident, after all, continuing family traditions with children and the magic of the season is what the holidays are truly about.

A
light aluminium wand reaches from floor to ceiling and can be detached for
up-close tasks like car cleaning. At the
business end, a motorized
cleaner head combines anti-static carbon fibre filaments with stiff nylon
brushes to tackle fine dust on hard floors and ground-in dirt on carpets.

Kellogg's And Christmas Rice Krispie Treats!
Review By : Ria (my daughter)
I always have fun reviewing silly things like this with my boyfriend Chris. It's a fun way to spend the evening/afternoon making something together. The Christmas Kit included a box of Rice Krispies, marshmallows, cookie cutters, sparkle decorating gel, cake sprinkles, gift bags/tags and candy canes. We easily whipped up the Rice Krispie mix, using the recipe on the bag of marshmallows and divided the mixture up, adding green and red food coloring to some of it. The kit also came with some ideas for making Xmas-y themed treats and we found other ideas from the Rice Krispie website. Many of the ideas used licorice strings or fondant, which we didn't have, but we made some pretty cute treats without it!
Rice Krispie Treats are such a cheap/quick snack to make at anytime, and with all the Xmas add-ons, we had a blast making these ones. For some reason I made everyone's eyes red (we only had two colors of Glitter Gel!) and I figured they all needed angry eyebrows to go with the red eyes!
My favorite creation was what I thought was Chris' "Christmas Zombie" but turned out that he was trying to make "The Grinch!" The "presents" were super easy to make and could have also been done by making a pan of Rice Krispies and cutting them up into squares, then decorating.
And the same tip from a previous post- if you are going to be using your hands to mold your designs, spraying Pam on your hands works great to keep everything from sticking to yourself! Unless you WANT the Rice Krispies to stick to yourself like I did with my Krispie Moustache!

How Not To Worry While Travelling
With winter descending upon us in
full force, some people dream of keeping warm with hot cocoa by the fire place,
while I dream of sandy beaches and palm trees. Sometimes, you just
have to get away. Traveling is one of the most popular endeavors that people
like to spend their time and their money on. Whether you are jet
setting across oceans, on that once in the lifetime trip or travelling slightly
closer to home, it is a great opportunity to leave your troubles behind and just
relax. However, there are a few things that can make any traveler nervous. What
if I get sick while abroad? What if the airline loses my luggage and all I have
on my honeymoon are the clothes on my back and not even a toothbrush?
Speaking from personal experience, if your luggage is lost the airline
might provide you with a toothbrush (but no toothpaste) and a change of
clothing-which in my case was only a huge over sized white see-through
t-shirt.
So you can hope that nothing bad will ever happen to you or
travelling companions or you can get proactive and obtain travel insurance
before your trip. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure.
Many think that travel insurance is only needed if you have a
pre-existing condition and might get sick in the foreign country and get stuck
with a huge hospital bill. You have to remember that accidents do
happen and watching the traffic rules (or lack of them thereof) in some
countries might be enough to persuade you. Whether you get the flu, or break a
bone having medical coverage is extremely important. Medical
transport from one country to your home country can literally cost hundreds of
thousands of dollars. That’s more than most houses! But travel insurance can
cover much more than just medical expenses, it can take the worry out of
traveling.
Most travelers know that by taking multiple connections to your
final destination you can save quite a bit on your travel. However, flights do
not always arrive on time and you can land at the airport just to see the plane
you were supposed to be on takeoff. Travel insurance can cover incidences such
as missed flights, flight cancellations, or flight delays which occur due to
weather- and with snow storm season approaching this could be an issue. Finally,
coverage can also help replace, lost, stolen or damaged baggage, as well as
documents and if your luggage is delayed there are options for emergency
replacement of essential items…toothpaste, perhaps?
There are many things to worry about when you travel, such as; who
will water my plants? Did I pack enough pairs of shoes? Will my hairdryer work
overseas? How will I charge my phone at the airport? Save your vacation time to
worry about your tan, and not if you whether you will have the money in case of
a travel emergency. For a literally a few dollars a day, you can get a peace of
mind.
