Congratulations! You are getting married. Wedding planning is officially underway. But upon your research on the internet and from reading magazines it becomes apparent that cost is going to be an issue. You are not alone. The average wedding can cost more than what some couples will pay for a house deposit. If you are feeling the pinch, then maybe adding some DIY touches could save you some money here and there. Here are some tips and tricks to still get that wedding of your dreams, just by adding a few DIY touches yourself.

DIY invitations can be a big task

Some people would argue that making your invitations can save you some money. But what others don’t appreciate is how much time and effort went into creating them. In the grand scheme of things after materials, you could end up spending not much less than you would if someone had done them for you. This is where research comes in. There are plenty of websites online that could help you create the diy wedding invites you invision, without it taking up too much time. They can send you a premade pack and then all you do is add the creativity yourself. It could save a lot of time and effort and still give you what you need.

Think about the big expenses

Flowers and cake can be some of the biggest expenses you face for your wedding. This is where clever thinking and a bit of know-how can come into play. Do you know anyone that can help you with these items? Perhaps you are a whizz at baking. Could you bake your own wedding cake? Maybe a friend has an interest in floristry, could you commission them instead of a professional? Perhaps there are some ways you could downsize the expenditure. There are many options for these things, a lot of which could be done yourself or by close friends and family. It just takes a little research and time.

Go crazy on the decorations

Adding your personal touches to your day can make it memorable. This is where getting a company to do them for you can cost the big bucks. Place settings, menu cards and such can be easily done yourself. You know what you want, and it can just be a case of putting time and effort into your decoration, that could make all the difference. There are so many ideas for decoration on sites like Pinterest that you would struggle not to be inspired.

It would all depend on your theme. But you could add some real different DIY touches that will make your wedding far more unique than any other you have attended. Plants in painted pots. Candles with added details. Lace bunting or personalised wine glasses. All these DIY touches can add some luxury to your wedding decoration.

It’s all in the little details.

It’s the little details that can make a huge impact on your wedding guests. Often these can be done by yourself. A summer wedding may welcome “flip flops” on the side of the dancefloor. A winter wedding may enjoy a hot chocolate station to warm everyone up. It’s thinking about your wedding and theme and highlighting the details that you, as a guest, wouldn't notice or appreciate.

Capture your wedding in your style.

If you are a keen photographer, then speak to guests and tell them what you would like. If you are keen to capture your wedding on film then equally voice this to your guests. You could then capture the pictures and video content and make a montage of the highlights. Saving a fortune on a videographer or even a photographer.

If you need a photographer for your big day, then why not use the images that you get to create your own photo albums. Sometimes this can be a much cheaper way of doing things but also allows you to add your DIY touch to the memories you create.

Wedding favours to wow.

Making your wedding favors can be a real nice touch for your guests. They can be as simple or as complicated as you want them to be. Again, searching for inspiration on websites like Pinterest can offer you a lot of inspiration. You can stick with the theme you have in place and create something that goes with it. Wedding favours can be something foodie, a candle or something personal to the guest. This is where all the DIY craft and touches can make all the difference to your wedding.

Let’s hope these tips and tricks inspire you to create the DIY wedding of your dreams.

Learning From Another Construction Firm's Mistakes

Turner Construction Ltd, a construction company located in Penkridge, Stafford, UK, has been fined due to an employee suffering an injury in an incident involving the toppling of a dumper truck. As the US’s most dangerous industry, the importance of construction health and safety awareness cannot be undervalued, and Turner Construction Ltd was shown to have failed in terms of adhering to the health and safety standards that are required of them. Although the incident happened in the UK, it can teach American firms a very important lesson too! So, let’s take a look…

The accident occurred when the ten-tonne dumper truck overturned while driving and landed in an open excavation. The incident resulted in the driver sustaining crush injuries to his wrist. During the hearing, Peterborough Magistrates’ Court concluded that the company had made a number of health and safety failings. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that was prosecuting the accident stated that the whole ordeal could have been prevented with ease if the company had implemented the simple safety measures that are required of them.

So, where did Turner Construction Ltd fall short? They failed to adequately train the driver of the dumper truck, they did not have a safe system of work implemented, nor did they have a plan for a safe working system, and they did not put any preventative measures in place, such as stop blocks, which would have stopped any vehicle from falling into the excavation. You can find plenty more on training, such as who offers paid truck driver training? online. This is one of the biggest mistakes the company made.

The Health and Safety Executive who was investigating and prosecuting on the Turner Construction Ltd case, stated that if construction work is planned, monitored, and managed correctly – in a way that ensures safety measures are adhered to from the start – then these accidents can be prevented. She cited the example of utilising stop blocks around the excavation edges so that the dumper truck did not fall into it.

The company admitted the charges they faced, which were cited as a breach of Regulation 9 (1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, as well as Regulation 13 (2) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, and the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007. They were fined £14,000 in total for the incident - £7,000 for each regulation breach, and they were ordered to pay £1607 in terms of prosecution costs.

Turner Construction Ltd are not the only company that have suffered fines at the hands of HSE over the past few weeks, as Chesham Care Ltd, a provider of rehabilitation and nursing services, was also fined for multiple safety failings. The company engaged in construction works, and admitted unsafe working practices, which include failing to put up relevant warning signs, failing to lock the site securely, not recording demolition arrangements, and failing to remove asbestos materials from the site for several months. They were ordered to pay £35,000 in total for multiple breaches of the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007, and in £1321.60 in the form of costs.

Trick or Treat- Sweets and Salties For Making It A Yummy Halloween

Saturday, October 12, 2019

Halloween- it will be here again before we know it!
We all know that Halloween candy is one of the best parts of the holiday.. and who hasn't dipped into their kid's Halloween candy? LOL
For most of us, it wouldn't be Halloween without trick-or-treating for candy; however, that wasn't always the case. When the custom of trick-or-treating started in the 1930s and early 1940s, children were given everything from homemade cookies and pieces of cake to fruit, nuts, coins and toys.
I myself remember fruit in my bag and homemade popcorn balls. How about you?
This year we are rounding up brands for inclusion for those Halloween trick or treat bags or those treats that are salty and sweet for adults too! Enjoy! And Happy Halloween from the following business:

PopCorners are the delicious, wholesome snack that makes it easier than ever to snack better. Drizzled in sunflower oil with a pinch of sea salt, our chips are made with non-GMO corn and never fried. No gluten, no nuts. Just simple ingredients for great tasting flavor! Looking to Do One Better and hand out something different than candy this year for Halloween? Try our 1oz single serve which are a perfect size for kids to enjoy!

McSweeney's- Premium Canadian Jerky-

Thursday, October 10, 2019

Who knew frugality could be so much fun?

Australians are amongst the wealthiest people on the planet, but for some reason we don't like to think or talk about money. Once upon time, thrift and frugality were celebrated as virtues- not anymore. When did frugal become such a dirty word? It's time to reclaim it!

When you respect and understand money, it almost magically transforms itself into something that grows exponentially, In The Joyful Frugalista Money magazine's Serina Bird shares her practical tips for saving money in small ways every day for a better, brighter future.

Discover inside:
-Ideas and resources for saving on everything from energy bills to weddings, clothing and eating out
-Clever ways to cut down on your waste
-Tips for embracing the joy of minimalism
-Ways to wring out every drop of pleasure from the money you have
-Challenges to help you live life better, including how to feed your family well on $50 per week.

The Joyful Frugalista is the essential handbook to living frugally, mindfully and with real joy on any budget

My thoughts:
I enjoyed reading this book. There were some spots in it that were Australia specific but not alot.
Despite reading a ton of thrifty and frugal living books over the years, I find everyone has a twist on saving.. and new books are always nice to get into as they keep up with the times.
