Saturday, November 30, 2019

Another month come and gone...and here are our expenses while on the road.
Keeping in mind we pretty much stayed within one area and did not travel out of the city limits. Mostly did dry camping to keep expenses down there. All expenses in USD.

Camping fees: $25
Laundry: $32.50 (only includes washes and dry- not soap, etc)
Take Out: $48.67 ( I do try to use coupons but will also say Gerry DOES eat more than me and ups the bill-LOL)
Water and dumps for the RV: $45
Gas RV- $170
Propane: $62.46
SUV Gas: $80
Groceries: $485.76

Gas will be up for December as we head to Las Vegas to meet with daughter and her boyfriend...and also a possible trip to the Mexican border for dental.

A US Thanksgiving At River Island State Park, Arizona

Friday, November 29, 2019

It's always been a welcoming place for us when traveling .... River Island State Park, Arizona.

This year we're spending a US Thanksgiving at the park, with other fellow campers.

Can't beat this scenery!

River Island State Park is a clean, quiet and off the main highway, between Lake Havasu City and Parker, Arizona.

The day started off not too bad, but by mid afternoon it was quite windy, cooler and started storming by evening!

We had stayed in site #4 which is a nice big spot on the end but no cell service or signal for me to hang out on the lap top. If you walk around you can pick up a signal near the washrooms as an FYI, if you need to use your phone.

Jake loved the puppy park because he had it to himself for a few minutes ! We usually have to leave though when the big dogs want to also come in. Alot of people use it for their dogs, and the park was full this Thanksgiving.

If your in the area be sure to check it out....

Healthy Habits That Will Lower Household Bills

Thursday, November 28, 2019

Healthy habits are an essential base on which good money-saving habits are built. These behaviors keep us feeling energized, focused, and positive, which makes living frugally possible. We could all do with extra money to play with, just like everyone could live healthier too. Despite the common misconception, it is possible to achieve both. In fact, living life healthily can improve your finances too. With that in mind, here are six healthy habits that will lower household bills.

1. Ditch The Smoking Habit
Everyone knows that smoking is an unhealthy habit. Unfortunately, it’s highly addictive too. In just a short time, you can go from being a social smoker to finishing entire packs every day. What makes this worse is how expensive cigarettes are. A full-time smoker can spend hundreds on tobacco products in less than a month. Quitting smoking isn’t easy, but the benefits are worth it.

2. Cook Your Own Meals
Healthy food doesn’t cost more than junk. Cooking your own meals is not only cheaper than ordering takeout but is much more nutritious too. Just a little research can help you cook foods you’d never considered attempting yourself before. You could even learn tips for cooking baby back ribs on the grill. Growing your own ingredients, like vegetables, will lower costs further.

3. Walk That Daily Commute
An active lifestyle offers many health benefits. It allows you to maintain a healthy weight, fights feelings of stress, and can also improve heart health. Many people don’t exercise nearly enough because they can’t afford gym memberships or don’t have time for workouts. Walking to work is a great solution. Doing this will start your day with exercise, as well as cut motoring expenses.

4. Head To Bed Earlier
Although exercise is important, a good night’s sleep is necessary for healthy living too. Sleeping longer at night will benefit your health in many ways, along with cutting household costs. After all, the longer you sleep at night, the less time you will spend eating, drinking, online shopping, and watching television. If you struggle to get to sleep, you should try adopting healthy sleep habits.

5. Limit Any Alcohol Consumption
Drinking alcohol might be enjoyable, but it isn’t healthy. Although a glass or two won’t harm you, binge drinking every night will negatively impact your health. What’s more, your finances will be affected too. That is why you should limit any alcohol consumption. Instead of drinking several beers or wines in a row, you should add soft drinks to the mix, as well as glasses of water.

6. Book Regular Check-Ups
A busy schedule can make attending health check-ups difficult. When you can’t see anything physically wrong with you, speak to a doctor seems like a waste of time. However, many serious health problems don’t show symptoms until they get worse. Booking regular check-ups will allow your doctor to monitor your health and give them a chance to spot issues before that happens.

A healthy lifestyle will benefit your bank balance just as much as your body. Hopefully, with the advice above, you can improve your physical, mental, and financial health.

How to Stretch Your Budget When Traveling in Europe

Monday, November 25, 2019

Is traveling to Europe on your bucket list? A lot of people want to travel to France, Germany and England, but these are three of the more expensive places to travel to in Europe. Sure, you can watch the changing of the guard and visit castles in England, and you can take that once-in-a-lifetime photo at the Eiffel Tower.
But there are definitely cheaper places in Europe that offer great sights, food and are rich in history.
A few of the cheaper countries to visit are:
-Czech Republic
-Croatia
-Poland
-Slovakia

When traveling on a budget and trying to maximize your vacation in Europe, you can:
Go to Non-tourist Destinations

If you land in Rome, you’ll find that the prices are sky high and that tourists are everywhere. Vendors, hotels and restaurants know that they can charge tourists more money, so you’ll spend far more money in these locations than in Puglia or other regions of Italy.
The same goes for London, Berlin and Paris, where prices for everything are inflated.
Take to the road less traveled, and you’ll find that there are still plenty of great areas to explore, sights to see and history all around you.
You'll want to do your research on places east of Germany due to some areas being potentially unsafe.
Go on the Off-Season

If you’re not planning to go on a beach vacation, choose to visit Europe during the off season. Hotels and B&Bs will charge lower off-season prices, cutting your costs in the process. Off-season offers:
-Cheaper flights
-Cheaper hotels
-Cheaper food (in some cases)
You'll also be able to beat the tourist crowds at top destinations. The off-season, especially when it’s close to the end of peak season, may be two weeks or a month from when you would normally go. September, for example, offers better prices than the last week or August.
Be Cautious of ATM Fees

ATM fees can add up quickly when traveling in Europe. Consult with your bank to see if international fees are waived. If you have to take out money from an ATM, take out more money to help offset unnecessary fees.
Consider a Hostel

If you feel safe and comfortable staying in a hostel, you can spend $15 to $30 a night (on average) during your stay. Hostels are great for the solo traveler, and they can cut back drastically on your accommodation costs.
Limit Eating Out

You’ll want to try local cuisine – most people do. You'll be able to try local foods that you would never have the opportunity to try in your own country. But you don’t need to go to a restaurant for every meal.
If you rent an Airbnb or apartment, you can go to a local grocery store and purchase goods.
Lidl and Aldi have stores across Europe that offer great good at an affordable price.
Mass Transit May Be a Great Option

I often like to rent a car when I go on vacation, but if you’re planning on just going to big cities, skip the car rental and consider a transit card. You can pay as little as €1.40 a ticket with a transit card in Brussels using the MOBIB card.
Just keep in mind that transit lines close, so you’ll want to make sure that you’re on schedule and cognizant of the time mass transit closes.
Groups Can Save When Driving
If you have a large group, four or more people, you may save money by driving rather than paying for rail passes or other options. Keeping track of everyone and what they want to do is easier when you’re all close together in a car or van.
But don’t try driving around in large cities.
A lot of travelers will rent a car and never use it because it’s easier to walk, use a rail or hail a taxi rather than drive in a hectic city center.

Take Out Travel Insurance Just in Case

Yes, you’ll spend more money on travel insurance, but if you’re pre-booking everything, travel insurance can save your trip. Imagine losing all of your luggage or potentially being injured and not being able to go on your once-in-a-lifetime trip.
Travel insurance can offer you peace of mind if something goes wrong and you’re unable to make or complete your trip.
Injuries can also occur when you’re on vacation. An offshore injury may be covered by maritime laws, but an onshore injury can be very complicated. Every country has its own injury laws, and your medical insurance will likely not follow you overseas.
Travel insurance may have emergency medical coverage included if you need medical assistance during your travels.
You have to be creative when traveling to Europe. Try traveling the road less taken, travel during off-seasons and make sure to see what mass transit options are available.

Must See On Your Trip to Orlando, Florida- The Blue Man Group!

Review by: Ria and Chris

If you happen to be in an area that has the Blue Man Group – definitely GO!!! After spending the day at Universal Studios Orlando, it was a quick walk over to Universal Citiwalk and the venue for the Blue Man Group. Even after reading some reviews, I was still not sure what to expect with this show but it did not disappoint! It was entertaining and very comical. I had read that there was a “poncho zone” (the front row seats where guests might get splashed by liquids coming off the stage!) and that the performers interact with the audience during the show.

The show is approx. 90 minutes long, with no intermission but the time seemed to fly by. Show up on time to avoid disrupting the show! One of my favorite parts (that I am sure must be staged!) was the shaming of the “late arrivals”, where they stopped their performance to shine lights on and film the people who were coming in once the show had already started! They played a “You’re late, you’re late” song while the tardy guests were being seated!

There is no talking done by any of the Blue Men, but their actions and facial expressions convey their moods, annoyances and the friendship they share with each other. Music is made by using PVC instruments, large drums and accompanied by a live band playing tribal-ish music behind them. The show has great audience interactions where they come out into the crowd to perform skits, release giant inflatable balls into the audience and a part where they asked everyone to stand up and perform “rock moves” and booty shaking! The black-light costumes of the band and the colors of the paint they use in their act makes it artistic and fun for all ages to watch.

We even got a chance to have our photos taken with the band that plays the music during the show as well as one of the Blue Men! They were all very patient and stood for many, many photos with their fans!! I would definitely return to watch another show if I get the chance and I hear that they change their material to keep the show fresh!
