Stitch & Bobbin Quilt Review

Thursday, May 20, 2021

 Review by: Ria

Quilting has definitely been my therapy during the past year of stay-at-home-nonsense so I was thrilled to be offered the chance to do a review of the Cross Stitched Quilt Kit by Running Doe Quilts for Villa RosaDesigns . Yessssssss please!!

The packaged kit includes a panel, white fabric and 8 fat quarters in cheery colors, which are perfect for brightening a bed or a mood! The colors remind me of the tropical islands, where each building is painted a fun, summery shade. I am normally slightly afraid of white fabric but the colored “X” and printed blocks offset it enough that it didn’t seem quite as scary! The kit includes all the fabrics for quilt top and binding. One of the pieces in the kit is this fun printed panel that you sub-cut into 10.5 inch squares. I loved the positive message printed on the selvage!

For the quilt backing, I used some vintage purple fabric from my Gramma’s stash and pieced leftovers of the fat quarters from the front of the quilt. There was PLENTY of fabric left over after completing the top and I was still able to add a bunch of this bright fabric to my scrap stash! (I also saved and sewed all my cut-off corners from the X blocks into half-square triangles and will use these in ANOTHER project!)

Even though I consider myself to be an experienced quilter, this kit was still very enjoyable to put together and is a simple, beginner pattern which can be completed by all skill levels. The main “X” blocks are made with the stitch-and-flip technique and the blocks can be completed quickly with chain piecing. The directions were clear and easy to follow, and small diagrams are also included on the glossy instruction card. The quilt finishes at a generous 50” x 60”, making it a great throw or couch blanket.

Since I don’t often attempt to quilt anything bigger than a toddler-sized quilt on my small home sewing machine and I knew this quilt needed a playful design, I decided to take it to my local long-arm quilter . After browsing all the fun designs, I decided on a bee and flower design. If you don’t have easy access to long -arm quilting services, this would be a great design to use stitch-in-the-ditch or straight line quilting.

Be sure to swing by the Stitch & Bobbin store or website for all your quilting and sewing needs!

How to Set Up a Small Medical Practice

Tuesday, May 18, 2021

As a qualified physician, there may come a time when you want to enter into solo practice and open up your own clinic. If this is the case for you, there are going to be many things you need to consider before you open an office. It's not like you can just go out and buy a few office supplies and unlock your doors. You need to start with a plan and follow through with every step you outlined in that plan. Once you have an overall budget, you can consider the cost of your medical office equipment and supplies.

In this article, we want to address the process to follow and the things you will need to open your medical practice.

Determine Whether It's Something You Want

Before diving into the details, you need to think about the whole process. Ask yourself:

Why do I want to start a private practice?

What type of medical service do you want to provide?

Is there a real need for it?

How much money do I have to risk?

Is this a full-time medical practice venture or a part-time one?

The purpose of these questions is not to dissuade you from opening a small medical office, but to give you a full understanding of your plan.

Plan

Your next step is to plan out the details. Set weekly and monthly goals to make your private practice a reality. Just as in school, this new venture will probably take up a great deal of your time, so make sure you are up to the challenge.

Refine Your Idea

Once you are sure you want to open a private medical practice, develop your idea. Create a business plan that outlines your objectives, your costs, and your needs.

You can start with a simple lean plan. It is a one-page business plan where you outline your objectives, set your mission and values, and set out the basic structure and costs for your new office. This plan will give you a guide as you continue with each step of your idea.

What Office and Medical Supplies Will You Need?

Once you are ready, you can consider your office and medical supplies.

When it comes to supplies, there are two basic categories for medical offices: front office supplies and consultation and exam room supplies.

Front Office Supplies

For the front office you'll need things that are typical of most offices. This will include things like a desk and chairs for the receptionist, administrator, and any other person working in this area.

Wastebaskets

Shelves

File cabinets

Computers

Organizers

Copier

Printer

Shelves

Stationary

Business cards

Of course, you will also need waiting room furniture such as a sofa, end tables, coffee table, water cooler. The best way to determine what you will need here is to look at what other doctors have in the waiting and reception area.

Consultation Supplies

Here you will need a few medical-specific supplies that will help you attend patients and offer basic testing. A few of these supplies include some of the following things:

Exam room equipment

Testing vials

Sanitizing equipment

Chairs

Cloth gowns

Medical shoe covers

Exam table paper

Sheets

In addition, you will need ongoing supplies of exam gloves, sanitary products, and soaps, syringes, needles gauze pads, among other things.

Shop Around

When you've projected everything and have a realistic budget for what you'll need, remember to shop at different places to compare service and price. You have a lot of things you need to purchase for a small medical office. So you'll want to shop around for price and convenience. Many suppliers are willing to deliver supplies on a regular basis. However, you can always get good deals at local office supply stores as well.

You need to consider every factor involved as this is a business venture just like any other, so you want to consider some things before heading out to the office supply store.

As you see, there are many different items a doctor's office needs, and they range from very inexpensive to the other end of the spectrum. Unfortunately, it is not so easy to set up a doctor's office, certainly not a matter of renting a space and opening your doors.

Remember, putting together a private practice is not just about the cost of office supplies. The more you know about your project, the more of an advantage and the more protection you will have in ensuring you can complete your project.

Keep in mind that your goals are set out in your business plan, and this serves you as a road map to complete the objective. The plan will guide you towards the next step of your goal and help you purchase everything you need for your small medical practice. In the plan, you want to outline your strategy, goals, tactics, and the things you need to get the office up and running.

Can I Make Money With Online Casinos?

Saturday, May 15, 2021

In the current scenario where people avoid going to the crowded places and cannot resist gambling, online casino is the best option where they can make money. Through online casinos, you can gamble anywhere and anytime at the same time. It is very entertaining, exciting, comfortable, and convenient. A large number of games become accessible at the same time, some of them being roulette, poker, blackjack, online slot machines, horse racing, and many more. Lots of online gambling sites offer free games where you can play without any pressure. There is no minimum limit where you can choose your own stakes, hence it suits all types of budgets. Online casino sites also provide additional rewards and bonuses which can be very useful for those involved in online gambling regularly.

A few tips though:

·   Always play only relaxed – You should always play with a fresh and clear head. It is a piece of advice given by every experienced player, which is the most important one and should be followed very seriously. If one has started to lose money, he/she should know where to stop. To cover the lost money, one should not gamble more and more.

·    Hold on to your profits – You should keep aside at least 50% of the profits and continue betting on the rest 50 percent. By doing this, even if one has lost half of the amount, he/she still has got the rest half left to continue betting.

·    Choosing an ideal online gambling site – You should always choose a site which suits their requirement, like a site which offers feature both for beginners and professional players. The site should also be selected, keeping in mind the safety and privacy of oneself. A site that provides top-class support to its customers is very important. 24/7 customer service support is always available as every individual is dealing with transactions of their hard-earned money.

·   Knowing when to quit – It is very important to have a clear plan in mind; you should be ready with both the strategies, whether winning or losing. It is important to realize whether luck is on your side, and you can keep on playing.

·    Begin playing free sites first - It is important to start playing on the free sites before spending the real money, which is widely available online. This will make one realize their strengths and weaknesses. The person has to take to make very quick decisions; playing on these sites will help decision-making quicker. Some online casino sites provide these facilities even.

Thus, with more people working from home, the growing popularity of an online form of gambling has increased. Therefore, lots of online casino sites such as BetMGM casino have come out; hence there is a lot of competition in the market, once should always choose and play wisely. It is also important to check the licensing and registration of the gambling site, making it more reliable and offering consumer protection. The safety of money invested is insured.

Today's Random Thoughts

Friday, May 14, 2021

Things have continued to be busy in our lives as of late. Daughter is getting read to leave, and head back to Central America, after a 10 month stay with us.

Gerry has been busy with starting to do Spring yard clean ups, mostly for seniors, and tries to get enough hours into the day for helping mom over at her place, or errands ( she doesn't drive- and since dad passed almost 3 months ago, she has needed someone to help her.) Also try to spend a little time daily to downsize, sort and organize at her house and the garage. 50+ years of "stuff" adds up. Gerry was lucky to get all my dad's lumber, and with it being so sky high right now in price, it's a big help for us... it gets it out of mom's yard but helps us as well.  Plywood alone last year was $10.99 a sheet and this year is $75! He is using alot of it for a lean to by the shed...

I received our newest insurance policy for the year and was totally shocked when I saw the $1,000 from the year before go up to $1,300 this year! A quick call to the insurance agency with a what it this?? and I was able to get it down to $856- all for just filling out a form that allowed a credit check to be done. So be sure to always fight for your dollar! $400 savings is seriously insane!

On a money downside, and to make a long story short, we had been on equal billing with our power bill. But since it had only been estimated over the winter for 5-6 months, and daughter's baseboard heater was running all the time, we had to pay for that shortfall... and how much you ask? $1500! It's a sad story, but after doing some investigating, we seen that baseboard heater was a greedy power pig! And she wanted to be warm. Normally we are gone away all winter so we never have it on. It's the only baseboard heater in the trailer - they rest of our home is on propane. But , not much you can do.. I find the power company takes pity on no one! Trust me, I put up a good fight!

Back to a good note again... I won a $100 Circle K gift card in an online contest, so that will be good for gas, and/or snacks, once we are on the road traveling,(as we don't have a location here in our town.)

Chocolate peanut butter drops

Tried my hand at making some chocolates too... and they turned out great! Maybe too great though.. I haven't made again because we were eating too many of them!

The days zip by so quick though..so I am outta here.. but also on one last note- a Very Happy Birthday to our youngest daughter, Erika, who turns 29 today!

And There It Was- Gone- Hope You Had a Happy Mother's Day!

Sunday, May 9, 2021

I really HAD planned to get up this morning and wish all moms everywhere- all my great readers- a Happy Mother's Day, bright and early this morning, but it just didn't go that way, and once again, the day slipped away. Life just gets busy. We did manage to go to mom's today and help her with a bit more downsizing at her place, something we try to do daily. Dad passed 2 months ago, and mom wants to eventually move, but there are no places open for her right now. Went out for ice cream today...which isn't always a good thing when your lactose intolerant like me- but am a sucker for it for sure!

Wanted to share some photos of some of the beautiful flowers and gifts I got too! Hope you all had a special kind of day!

Our Before and After With Primco Flooring

Monday, May 3, 2021

Yes, it was time for a change...!

We have been renovating slowly - changing from beige and dark browns to white and grey.

I would say it's been about 10 years since the last change.

Did the painting and then it was on to the flooring.

We looked for vinyl flooring but once we saw that laminate is now waterproof we decided to go that way.  What caught our eye was Primco's Transcend Collection  . It's  an 8mm laminate with a AC4 wear rating so it will protect against scratching a lot better then a vinyl floor. (Check out this video Laminate AC4 versus SPC 20mil Wear layer - Angle Grinder - YouTube). This flooring is amazing- its not just coated with wax either. What really makes it water proof is the Hydro-monolithic wax that they mix in the core so every cut on nick in the plank leaves it still waterproof. I use a cordless vac on my floor a few times a day, so I know I needed a flooring that could stand up to that as well.

Primco also offer custom made vents and moldings that can come with the flooring.

We used the Protect-it versatile underlay that can be used under laminate and includes a vapor barrier as well as can be put over top of it to protect the floor while you are  moving things around to protect your investment.

One thing, among many, that we loved was the smooth look of the floor, as well as the shade. The last color we had was dark brown, and it really showed every bit of dust. Grey is so much nicer!

On an end note we want to just say- Be sure to check out their website or  ask your local flooring retailer about the Estates Laminate collection! We love ours!
