The Britannia Mine Museum is located in Britannia Beach, BC.,
and is an easy 45 min drive north of Vancouver. They are open year round,
Monday-Friday 10 am to 3:30 pm and Sat-Sun and Holidays 10 am to 4 pm. Tours run 45 min for a guided tour offered
throughout the day. Most visitors spend another hour after the tour to explore
the museum on their own too.
There are exhibits, gold panning,
an award winning film and historical buildings on site. The museum has
historical machinery and heritage buildings.
You can see a lot of interesting machines such as a lime tank and
mucking machine. You can also take a mine train for the underground tour, go through an
early tunnel and the tour guides will describe early mining efforts and you can
see working drills and mucking machines. Another portion, is panning for gold
and whatever you find you can keep! This looks like it will be an interesting visit since we also live in a mining town.
