Clothes Can Be Recycled, Too!

Monday, November 12, 2012

This Thursday, November 15, is America Recycles Day. We all do our best with cans and paper, but did you know that Americans throw away an average of 68 pounds of clothing each year?
A new website, DonateStuff.com, is helping to change this.

You can visit DonateStuff.com to request a pre-paid UPS shipping bag to send in unwanted clothing, shoes, accessories, and linens from anywhere you live in the US, free of charge. Your requested bag(s) are mailed to your home within 24 hours. Just fill your bags and drop them off at any UPS shipping location.

What’s more – your donated items benefit your choice of one of DonateStuff’s national charitable partners: AMVETS, Easter Seals, and The Purple Heart. Items donated through DonateStuff.com are also tax deductible.

Each pre-paid shipping bag can hold an average of 15 pounds – that's about 45 pieces of clothing, shoes, accessories, and other household textiles including handbags, sheets, and towels.  You can request up to three bags at a time, and there is no limit to the number of requests you can make.  So far, DonateStuff is keeping over 470,000 pounds of clothing out of landfills every week!

I hope you’ll celebrate America Recycles Day by cleaning out your closets!  You’ll help others in need and do a green deed.

  1. This is great. The churches in my area pick up clothes on are front doors stoops. But great for those who do not have that service.
