If you're thinking of starting a new exercise routine but you're unsure where to start then don't worry, you have definitely come to the right place. With so many incredible ways to exercise and build a routine, it's important you're doing what you can to put together something that is right for you. From setting yourself goals to finding a personal trainer, the more you're planning before you start the better. With that in mind, here are 7 things to consider when starting a new exercise routine:

- Have You Ever Done Any Exercise Before?

One of the first things you need to consider when it comes to starting a new exercise routine is whether or not you have done any exercise before. If you don’t have any experience then chances are, you’re going to need to start off small. Although it may seem overwhelming as a new starter, there are lots of ways you can ensure you’re putting together a routine that suits you perfectly. From speaking to a professional to doing research online, it can be much easier than you think.

If you have been exercising for a number of years and you want to change your routine, you need to be sure you’re thinking about the things you definitely need to change. Whether that’s adding new exercises or increasing the amount of time you exercise for, the sooner you start thinking about it the better. - What Are Your Goals?

When you’re thinking about the type of routine you’re going to be following, you need to consider your overall fitness goals. Not only will this help you put together a plan that will help you achieve them but it will also show where you need to work the hardest. - What Do You Enjoy?

Another important thing to consider when it comes to starting a new exercise routine is the type of exercise you enjoy. If you fill your new routine with exercises you hate, chances are you’re not going to be motivated enough to do them. If you put together a routine filled with things you love, you’re going to want to work out each and every day.

- What Areas Do You Need To Focus On?

When it comes to exercise routines you also need to think about the specific areas you need to focus on, especially if you have received physical therapy in the past. If you have experienced musculoskeletal difficulties then you need to be sure you’re taking them into consideration. Whether that means adapting your routine or taking the time to rebuilt specific areas of your body, it’s definitely not something you can ignore.

- Do You Need Professional Advice?

If you are worried about putting together a suitable exercise routine then you might want to consider speaking to a professional. Whether this means speaking to a personal trainer or your doctor, you need to be sure you’re not pushing yourself to something your body can’t do. Although personal trainers can be expensive, they’re often the best way to come up with a routine that not only benefits you but you enjoy too.

- Will You Be Going To The Gym?

Another important thing to consider is whether or not you’re going to be going to the gym. Whilst it isn’t essential, having a routine that involves going to the gym is a great way to keep yourself motivated as you’ll have absolutely everything you need there. Working out can be expensive if you have to buy your own equipment so if you want to cut costs, signing up to your local gym might be the best option.

- Do You Need To Buy Any Equipment?

Finally, you need to think about whether or not you need to purchase any equipment to support your new routine. From new work out clothes and a water bottle to weights and yoga mats, you need to think about what you’re going to need in order to stick to your routine. Although it may be expensive at first, at least you’ll have everything you need moving forward.

  1. Great advice. The more prepared you are, the more likely you are to succeed. I have tried a lot of different forms of exercise and quit most of them a short time later. I finally realized that I need to go somewhere to exercise (if I try to work out at home I get distracted) and I need something planned to do or I'll stop too soon. I found a gym that has a preplanned circuit and it's perfect for me. It's all about finding what is right for you!
