A Spot To Fill In

Sunday, September 11, 2016

Gerry spent the day yesterday taking down the old car port that we used for storage. Over time he moved things into his shed and the bigger garage so didn't need it anymore, plus the tarp was ripping and getting brittle.
We had a wood floor in it too that was getting rotten, so it all came down.

Now we have an empty spot along the fence as well, that we'd like to plant some trees there this Fall or next year. We haven't decided what we'll do with that spot yet, we had had a garden there in the past but the soil or weather never yielded much. So we may try again with different black dirt or seed it in. We can decide next year I guess.

Today's Quick Tip

Friday, September 9, 2016

Keeping organized continues.

Go through your fridge and freezer and check expiry dates on your food. Getting rid of what you won't be using or that has expired way past it's date.
Minimize excess packaging as well to make more space.
The same or next day, do the same with your pantry. Don't forget to check spices too. Most will have an aroma when opened if they are still good.

At Home Spa Feet

I once and only once, had a spa pedicure done.It was at a small resort town in the mountains of British Columbia, and it was free. It was a freebie from going to a timeshare presentation. It was so nice to be pampered and my feet truly did enjoy it. The cost should I have had to pay for this pleasure? $65! I had the whole deal though: the soak, the scrubs, the paraffin wax treatment , the painted toes, etc .
Could I afford to do this on a regular basis? Maybe. But would I want to? Maybe. But would I? No..I'm just too frugal for that.
You can give yourself an at home pedicure and is easy to do.

-Fill a small  basin with warm water- enough to cover your feet.  The water should be warm, but not too hot.
-Add some foot soak or baby oil to the water to soften the feet. Epsom salts may also be added.
-Soak for approx. 20 minutes, remove feet and towel dry.
-Remove the dry skin and callouses with a pumice stone or special tools used for this, in the beauty section of your drugstore or department store.
-Apply a cream like Flexitol to your feet- I find these work the best for moisturizing.  Pay close attention to your heels when you are doing this to truly get soft feet. The heels tend to be more prone to drying out.
-Once you've gotten the foot cream on, you are ready to paint your toes.I like the french pedicure myself.

Today's Quick Tip

Friday, September 2, 2016

Continuing to keep our homes organized, today we'll clean out our cleaning supply cupboard.

Sort through half bottles of this and that and combine like bottles. Give away cleaners you don't use- to family, friends or the food bank. Get rid of rags too that are ready for the garbage. If you have a maid service if might be a good idea to just let them bring all their own cleaners and get rid of all those cleaning supplies that are just collecting dust.

I try to keep a stockpile of cleaners. When things are on sale and I have coupons I'll buy extra.  At times too I review products and have some new things to try. But this is how my cleaners are looking right about now.

Announcing Stouffer’s Kitchen Cupboard Commitment

Thursday, September 1, 2016

Stouffer’s has announced that it will be simplifying recipes according to its new “Kitchen Cupboard” commitment. This new initiative will focus on shortening and simplifying recipes and only including ingredients consumers might find at home, like vine-ripened tomatoes, freshly made pasta, and real mozzarella.

·        This effort will begin with Stouffer’s Lasagna with Meat and Sauce, one of the brand’s classic offerings. The simpler recipe will now contain fewer ingredients, but continue to offer the same great taste consumers know and love.

·        Over the next few years consumers will see Kitchen Cupboard renovations across existing and new products. The guidelines include:

·        Using ingredients that consumers trust and recognize, like what they would use in their own home kitchens, with no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives
·        Working on simplified recipes that result in great taste with fewer ingredients
·        Offering recipes that provide consumers with the same or better dining experience, at a good value

This is something I am truly happy to hear about. For someone that has food intolerances , tries to eat healthier and reads food labels, thumbs up to Stouffers!
