Experiencing Kentucky -Day 1

Wednesday, November 9, 2022

It's time to slow down our drive a bit- and start to enjoy more. Have been driving for about 8 days from Canada- to stay ahead of any snow. Highways have been very busy- alot of truckers. This is our first time coming through the Midwest and Eastern States. Kentucky is our first state where we feel we can start slowing down.

We paid a visit to the visitor center- Whitehaven Mansion, in Paducah. We were graciously showed the home by Gina. This place is a must see when you arrive in Paducah. It's a wonderful mansion to see and has all your one stop brochures and tourism guides for visiting. Restored 1860s Southern mansion features period furnishings and memorabilia of Paducah native Alben Barkley, who served as Vice President under Harry Truman. Whitehaven is one of the finest Classical Revival residential structures in Kentucky and is the only historic home serving as an interstate Welcome Center.

After the stop to the visitor center we made a stop over at the Purple Toad Winery. Did some sampling and bought some wine. I am not a wine drinker- Gerry is- but I did some taste testing and LOVED their wines. The slushies were great too and I wouldn't even know I was drinking wine unless I was told! The winery is Kentucky's largest and most awarded.. and we can see why!
