5 Ways To Stop Your Wardrobe From Getting Boring

Tuesday, April 30, 2019

We’ve all been there. We stand before our wardrobe with bits of outfits strewn all about the floor around us. It’s not that we don’t have enough clothes. We have plenty of clothes. But nothing quite feels right. The occasion calls for something a little bit special and everything you own feels so… old hat. Quite simply, your wardrobe has become boring. You need something with a little edge. Something that will make you stand out a little more when you walk down the street. A look that will help you to look and feel as unique, special and beautiful as you are. Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a fortune on replacing your wardrobe. This is, after all, a blog about thrift. But there are plenty of ways in which you can rejuvenate your wardrobe and prevent it from becoming boring…

Buy or borrow something that scares you

It’s common to become frustrated not just with your wardrobe but with the high street. Very often you don’t need to replace your whole wardrobe, you just need to invest in one statement piece. Still, it’s hard to make a statement when every store you stop by just sells a slight variation on the same thing. If I’m looking for something unique, I’ll start by eschewing the high street and looking for online clothing boutiques near me. When buying (or borrowing if your budget prohibits buying) a statement piece I recommend buying just one thing that scares you a little. You may well find that it quickly becomes your favorite.

Never underestimate the power of accessories

Even the dowdiest garment can be rejuvenated when you pair it with the right accessories. Even if you’re not taking risks with your clothes you can still do a lot with belts, bags, bangles and everything in between. Speaking of accessories...

Go thrift shopping for some vintage eyewear

As you know, this blog has nothing but good things to say about the transformative power of vintage eyewear. Vintage sunglasses can lend a little edge and vibrancy to virtually outfit and look great on pretty much everyone regardless of size, shape, age and ethnicity. They’re easy to find, affordable and can help to give you the sexiest accessory of all… Confidence. By subtly changing the shape of your face and changing your perspective of the world, sunglasses can  have a psychologically transformative effect that is carried across to everything else you wear.

What a difference a rip makes

Want to add a little punk influenced edge to a pair of faded skinny jeans? Pick up those scissors and have at it. A rip here and a rip there can add a dash of instant punk chic to tatty old clothes and allows you to wear items that have spent months or even years languishing in your wardrobe with confidence.

Dye another day

Dyeing your old clothes is another great way to fall in love with them all over again. By adding a new dash of color to clothes that have lost their luster (or were simply more conservatively colored) you can help them to look and feel brand new and prevent your old favorites from becoming boring.

As you can see, it doesn’t take much effort or expense to make your wardrobe fun and full of life once more!
