Book Review: Bullets and Bread

Review by: Cynthia

"Bullets and Bread" is a unique book that deals with feeding Americans on the battlefield and at home.  I enjoyed reading and learning about the people, the food of the era, what they had to eat and what foods they liked.

This book is divided into three sections, history, memoirs and recipes.  I enjoy cooking and baking, and can remember my grandmother on the farm cooking large amounts of food.  They would even invite the salesmen who came around to eat meals with them.

For those who enjoy photography as I do, there are many photos in the book of famous and everyday people of WW 11.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys WW 11 history.  It has interesting facts that I wasn't aware of before, it is an easy read with a good variety of facts and recipes.

  3. Very nice of you- thank you- and to your family as well. We did our Thanksgiving supper yesterday with one daughter and her bf. My mom did the book review- as she was born in that era and always finds books from that time period interesting.
