Wednesday, April 22 is Earth Day. This is an annual
event, that is now celebrated worldwide, and demonstrates support for
environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970 in the US, and is now
global and celebrated in over 192 countries every year.
Earth day aims to educate people on
environmental issues, so they can understand their responsibilities on behalf
of the planet. It helps raise awareness on the impact that we have on the
environment. It also gives people ideas on what they can do about it, such as
going green. Some ideas are recycling and less energy consumption. Also less
paper consumption, and taking public transportation are other things people can
do to help the environment.
This
year marks the 45th anniversary of Earth Day. And it is more important now than
ever, as climate changes are becoming more apparent and a new understanding of
the consequences our actions are having on the Earth and environment. Come see what others are doing for our planet-
London Drugs:
Since 2008, customers and staff at London Drugs have actively participated in the What’s the Green Deal? recycling program at London Drugs. Throughout that time the company has kept old electronics, batteries and any other recyclable items out of landfill sites in every community supported by London Drugs. The Green Deal recycling program accepts ink cartridges, Brita water filters, electronics, light bulbs, batteries, cell phones, Styrofoam and more. For full information on what is accepted at London Drugs please visit www.greendeal.ca.
Speaking of protecting the earth, did you know that according to a recent study conducted for the Ad Council, 52% of Americans don’t know which items can be recycled in the bathroom. And only 10% of Americans have a recycling bin in their bathroom, compared to the 45% who have them in the kitchen. Whether it’s hairspray, leave-in conditioner or dry shampoo, many of your favorite beauty products and packaging can take on another life through recycling. For example, your shampoo bottle could be recycled into a hairbrush, or you might find a great new dress made from the recycled plastic of your favorite bottle of lotion.
