We all get a little concerned when we look in the mirror and see a line that wasn’t there before. It should surprise no-one that there are people willing to shell out a lot of money to see those lines eradicated through expensive surgeries. However, it may surprise you that there are much easier ways to treat wrinkles and fine lines. You don’t have to pay to go under the knife, you should simply try these methods instead.
Improving your lifestyle
Let’s start with the ugly truth of wrinkles. If we all did a little more to protect our skin from the risk of their appearance, we wouldn’t have to invest in anywhere near as many treatments and procedures. So, even if you’re looking for a cost-effective treatment, make sure you take care of your skin, as well. Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, sweaty plenty with enough physical activity, avoid eating too many sugars, and make sure that you get a good night’s sleep for one. Protecting yourself from UV radiation is the most important of all. Not only does it dehydrate your skin, cause sunspots, and increase the chances of inflammation, but you should never forget about the risks of skin cancer.
The natural route
Nutrition is very important to your skin. Making sure you get your supply of Vitamin A, B, and C is all essential for the health of your skin. One ingredient, in particular, in your skin care products that you should look for, however, is hyaluronic acid. This is the substance that strengthens the connective tissue beneath the surface of the skin. When our skin starts to lose it, that’s when it starts to sag. There are plenty of skin creams and moisturizers that come with hyaluronic acid that you can apply topically. Otherwise, try to keep your skincare as natural as you can. There are a lot of artificial chemical ingredients in moisturizers and exfoliating creams that can actually do us more harm than good, so be selective.
Injection treatments
There are anti-aging procedures that are still something of an investment, but nowhere near as expensive as going under the knife. The different injection treatments are a good example. The most famous is Botox, and treatments like the lip flip use this to reduce lines of activity, such as frown lines and smile lines, by effectively freezing the bits where the skin is connected to the moving facial muscles. On the other side, dermal fillers can reduce the lines of rest, such as the sagging that comes naturally with age. It does this by rejuvenating the volume in the skin and by directly supplying the connective tissue with that all-important hyaluronic acid. It can take a few tries to see the effects of injection treatments, but there are highly effective and have far fewer complications than surgery, which is why they’re so popular.
Microdermabrasion
This treatment doesn’t necessarily get rid of wrinkles, but it does reduce the appearance of them, as well as fighting other signs of aging in the skin. Effectively, microdermabrasion involves refining the texture of the skin by removing the flaky dry skin that builds on top, as well as breaking down the bumps caused by trapped oils. Furthermore, it can erase some sun-damage spots while it smooths out your skin. It’s an option that comes with minimal pain and has results that last from two to three weeks, so it’s something to go back for occasionally when needed.
Do it yourself
Face masks are an excellent way of hydrating the face and, with ingredients like coconut oil, can rejuvenate the nutrients that your skin needs to fight wrinkles. For instance, coconut oil contains antioxidant ingredients that fight free radicals, which are substances that cause inflammation and early signs of aging. There are plenty of homemade facial mask recipes you can follow, many of them using the super ingredient that is coconut oil. Buying all the ingredients and making it yourself, instead of finding store-bought face masks, can be just as effective but a lot less expensive. Similarly, you can find all kinds of recipes for scrubs, moisturizers, and other skincare products across the internet. Just make sure you know what you’re putting on your skin and its effects before you jump on it.
From better maintenance of your skin to the non-surgical options that, while still an investment, are much cheaper, there are plenty of cost-effective approaches to keeping your skin youthful. The five examples above are only the beginning, there are plenty of options to choose from so do your own research, too.
