Wednesday, November 30, 2016

The Who, What, When ,and Why and Final Outcome of reviewing the Roadmaster 4750 Tow Defender.

Who:  Roadmaster is a manufacturer and seller of tow bars, towing systems, and accessories.

What: Product We Reviewed: Roadmaster 4750 Tow Defender
A bumper-to-bumper blanket of protection! The Tow Defender's all-weather, heavy-duty screen deflects rocks, gravel and road debris down and away, protecting your towed vehicle's finish, headlights and windshield against chips and dings. The vinyl-coated mesh lets air through, keeping it low and over the road.

Fully extended, both Tow Defenders offer 20 square feet of protection, and are held in place with shock-absorbing gas struts.

When: While down south and traveling through the USA and Canada, the opportunity arose to review the Tow Defender.

Why: While we were traveling to get to southern Arizona for the Winter, Gerry found a fair number of small rocks were ending up at the base of his SUV that he was towing. As well as discussing this issue with fellow RVer's, the Tow Defender appeared to be a solution to this problem.

The Final Outcome: After a 5 minute easy installation process, Tow Defender is installed and ready for our next trip. It's a product we highly recommend for the product and the customer service, and commitment to the brand.

Please visit Roadmaster for all your towing needs!

Review : #Holiday Celebrations #Menu @ #IHOP

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Review By:  Erika and Jon

The NEW holiday celebrations menu has arrived at IHOP and we were so excited to have the opportunity to try out some of the holiday pancakes!! IHOP is without a doubt our favorite breakfast spot – it’s the only one in Calgary and right down the street from where we live.

Decadent flavors of the holiday season include: Rich new flavor of pancakes, new choices of hot chocolate infused with the essence of mint and marshmallow, and an innovative new twist on the holiday classic:
·         NEW! Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pancakes – Rich chocolate pancakes, topped with crushed peppermint, white chocolate chips and a drizzle of dark chocolate, and crowned with creamy whipped topping.

·         Eggnog Pancakes – Eggnog Pancakes feature eggnog cream swirled with cinnamon and nutmeg, layered between warm buttermilk pancakes. Finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, butter rum sauce and whipped topping.

·         Pumpkin Spice Pancakes – A perennial IHOP fan favorite, Pumpkin Spice Pancakes bring back memories of hot pumpkin pie baking in the oven. Enjoy three fluffy pancakes made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, and crowned with creamy whipped topping.

·         Roasted Turkey and Fixings with New! Bacon Mashed Potatoes – Carved roasted turkey breast topped with warm gravy and served with cornbread stuffing, bacon mashed potatoes, steamed fresh broccoli and a side of lingonberries.

·         New! Frosted Mint Hot Chocolate – Rich hot chocolate flavored with Frosted Mint syrup, finished with whipped topping.

·         Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate – Hot chocolate flavored with Toasted Marshmallow syrup and whipped topping, finished with cocoa powder.

Jon ordered the ultimate bacon and sausage combo with the eggnog pancakes and I ordered a two stack of the pumpkin spice pancakes AND the dark chocolate peppermint pancakes with a side of hash browns.

Overall, we really enjoyed all three of IHOP’s holiday pancakes!!

I liked the dark chocolate peppermint pancakes the best – I'm a sucker for anything chocolate and they reminded me of those mint peppermint patties. On the other hand, Jon liked the pumpkin spice pancakes the best – he thought they tasted a lot like pumpkin pie.

So what are you waiting for? Head to IHOP and check out the holiday celebrations menu before it's gone!! While you're there, pick up a $25 gift card and receive a $5 coupon for your next visit!!

A Day Trip To Mexico For Dental

Monday, November 28, 2016

Since Gerry retired early, last October, we lost our dental benefits he used to have while working with the company he was at. This year I had dental work done in the city because I had some complicated things that needed to be done- but it wasn't without costing a small fortune. So now we were due for cleanings and check ups. Would have been a few hundred each for us in the US while here, but this year again, we drove almost 2 hours out from Quartzsite and went to Los Algodones, Mexico

( Took a photo here but where the people are walking, it says no photos in that area since there is customs and US border security to the left.)

Each got cleanings and check ups done for a total of $60 US. When we were done we saw a place offering manicures for $10 US - so we went. Although it was cheap, I got one knick and Gerry got two when getting cuticles cut, but all in all not bad.  Definitely cheap!

We also had paid $12 for parking the RV in the lot shown below.

We didn't do any "shopping". We feel very hounded when we're there, and feel we cant really look at anything without being harassed. So it's go in and come back out. There is always someone selling something though. Made a quick stop at the Walmart in Yuma for some food, and now on way back to Quartzsite, where we'll just watch a movie from Redbox and relax tonight.

Friday, November 25, 2016

Well, all we can say is: "There goes healthy eating and that diet, out the window- again!"

These are a 2 step sweet dough, twirled with cinnamon and topped with icing.

Of course with my love for anything chocolate, the chocolate were the first ones we got into-and all I can say was - well, yum! Review: Thunderleash

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Review by: Erika

Our dog Be is normally well behaved on her walks except for when she sees other dogs - she will pull and pull until she’s nose to nose with that other dog, which can be frustrating and embarrassing!! We had given up hope until we discovered the ThunderLeash

ThunderLeash is the simpler “no-pull” solution for dogs. It’s innovative design converts from a standard leash to a "no-pull" solution in seconds, while providing a safe and gentle pressure on the dog's torso providing consistent feedback to stop pulling.

The leash wasn’t complicated to attach to Be’s collar and fit her well without being uncomfortable. Unlike before, Be now waits and doesn’t pull ahead as soon as the front door opens to go outside. While on her walks, she stays beside or very close to us and although she definitely still notices other dogs, she doesn’t pull aggressively towards them anymore. The ThunderLeash has taught our dog to be more patient on her walks, which is great!!

Overall, we were very impressed with ThunderLeash and would recommend it to any pet owner who is having pulling problems with their dog!!

Have A Wealthy New Year: Great Finance Goals For 2017

Everyone wants to get their finances in order. Having less debt and more money will lead to much less stress in your daily life. It’s hard to keep your spending low during Christmas when you need to buy all kinds of gifts and decorations. So why not start planning for 2017?

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, financial ones are often the best kind. They’ll help you not just for the upcoming year, but also long into the future. Here are some of the most practical financial goals you should set yourself for next year.

Beat Your Debt

With things like student loans, mortgages, and other personal loans, people accumulate all kinds of debt. Often, people take the approach of keeping debt for a long time and chipping away at it bit by bit. But you might want to set a goal to start proactively beating your debt.

One of the best ways to start tackling debt is to consolidate your loans. Some companies offer debt consolidation for all of your outstanding student debts. You can also find services to help with payday loans. Consolidating debts often works out cheaper and is much more manageable.

You could also take the approach of going after your debts one by one. If you focus all your savings on paying off one loan, you’ll have one less to worry about. You might want to start with the smallest to ball it over quick or take on the one with the highest interest rate to save more.

Make More Money At Home

Time is money, so you might want to use your free time to make more. There are many low-effort ways to earn money from the comfort of your home. Many require nothing but a computer, so it’s easy for anyone.

If you have some unique skills or talents, you might want to use them to make money. Sites like Fiverr let you offer all kinds of services to people for money. Typical tasks include copy writing and graphics editing. But there’s no limit to things you can offer- some people get paid for doing homework or singing happy birthday!

You could also make money from your smartphone. The Make Money app pays you for simple tasks such as watching videos and filling in surveys. The benefit is you can use it from anywhere! It’s perfect for traveling or commuting as well as home use.

Reduce Your Spending

Everyone should start a savings fund. All you need to do is spend less each month and put more away in an account or savings jar. But how can you start reducing your monthly expenditure?

Instead of paying full price for everything, start using coupons! You can find these in many places, from websites to newspapers and magazines. Many companies also offer discount codes to make your costs lower.

You should also use price comparison sites before buying anything. You can make significant savings by finding the lowest possible price for all your purchases. Google has a shopping search feature to get you the best prices on the web. There are also dedicated websites and apps to help you find low prices.

The KFC $10 Chicken Share

Sunday, November 20, 2016

Chicken is better when it is shared.  So grab a friend, wife or hubby even and pick up a $10 Chicken Share. You can share either nine Extra Crispy™ tenders, six pieces of chicken, a lot of Popcorn Nuggets, or twelve Hot Wings.

Gerry and I had a chance to try the $10 Chicken Share on the way back from Las Vegas the other day. We stopped in Parker, Arizona at their location and were helped by the friendly staff there.

We chose the 9 piece tenders. Ordered 2 small wedge fries as a side but when we got our tenders there were some wedges on the top on the share bucket as well. May have been a bonus?

Great to grab something quick as we were over due for supper that day.

Try it today!

Leaving Las Vegas

Saturday, November 19, 2016

I had wanted to get my yesterday's blog post done, well, yesterday but with all the running around we did, and then meeting with Ria and Chris again in the evening, that plan went out the window.

Like I knew, it takes more time to drive in the city back and forth and to get anywhere than anything. We would take Jakey to doggy daycare, which would be a distance from the RV Park, then we'd drive here and then drive there and would take us most times close to an hour to get from here to there. The traffic is exceptionally fast too. Sometimes I'd rather just close my eyes and not look. Everyone darting in at out at top speeds, someone getting too close, someone flipping you the bird, someone honking... eeek- get me back to a small town! But the city does offer entertainment, and a great variety of sites and shopping. You seem to have to have to take the good with the bad.

And if you asked if we gambled? Well yes we did- a BIT. We did play the slots once or twice but weren't lucky nor did we spend much. I think if we would have won anyhow we just would have tried our luck again to win MORE and lost it possibly again. The slot machines are fun but NOT when you lose.

We had went to a place called the Mob Museum when we were in Vegas but we didn't stay long. It didn't keep our interest. We did like some things- like short fact videos they played in various locations within the museum, the gas chamber, the electric chair, artifacts of mobster's choices of weapons, etc., but we also found ourselves rushing through it to leave.

We'd give it a 6/10. But a 10 for the artifacts contained within . Please note parking is also $6 to park next to the museum. We had no change on us and went to one of the nearby casinos and got free parking, and just walked over.

A highlight of the day we must say though was the Lion Habitant Ranch on the outskirts of town. This is not a zoo. It's a habitat for lions, birds, emu, ostrich and giraffe . It's home to the cats that used to be exhibited at the MGM Grand Hotel.

We found the ranch VERY clean, the animals all very healthy looking and the staff most friendly.

We were surprised by the size of the lions and were glad we were on the "right" side of the fence! At one point when we were there, one lion roared and they all started in- it is quite the thing to hear  how loud and strong their voices really are.

We enjoyed our short visit here and would come here again. Please note the facts on how costly it is to look after these animals as well:

(which we understand from one staff member that these figures are higher now!) A great visit- and must see for anyone.

But today we say good bye to Las Vegas- till we see you again another time.
We were glad we were able to spend some time with the Ria and Chris too- even if it were for a brief time... we love you guys- and will miss you.

P.S -Gerry is so happy not to be driving in the city anymore- especially with a big RV, as we head out of the city and onto the lonely desert highway.

Day 2 Las Vegas

Friday, November 18, 2016

It was already dark when we got into Las Vegas last night with the RV. We had planned to leave earlier in the day but Ria was waiting on a package for Chris to arrive at our post office that they needed,  so we waited around till it came in at 3 pm and left after that. But Vegas is about a 4 hour drive North from where we were at. Gerry hates driving in the dark, with the RV,plus add to that fast city driving and not being able to see much... never good. Add again to that going down into the wrong lane of traffic and people honking, and trying to get back out- nightmare!! But we did make it. Checked in last night for 3 nights at the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort.

Lots of people and RV/s/campers here.Very close together as well- not like in the desert where we have a ton of space! (Which we prefer- but this IS the city after all). And we're only here for a few days. 3 days is costing $162 US - just to be parked here and use their power, water and services! I do like their little doggy runs here in the park though.

Very clean and they "encourage you" to pick up after your dog in a great way- by fining you if you don't.

We did go out last night and treated Ria and Chris to Red Lobster- ( they were in the city so we drove up to see them).. went to Walmart after too... but it was getting so late and Jakey was back at RV waiting for us I'm sure, So we called it an evening after  a little over 3 hours visiting and hanging out.

Today- (Thursday) Gerry and I headed out today on our own, since Ria and Chris were at a convention/trade show of sorts. We took Jakey to a great doggy daycare for the day.. and we're sure he had a great time. Good for him to have some fun on holidays too.

In the afternoon, Gerry and I went to Real Bodies at Bally's. Too cool!

Real Bodies at Bally's uses real human specimens to explore the inner workings of the human form. The exhibition provides insight into our own bodies from conception through life, and the inner happenings of what goes on inside of us and how we are all "put together." It's quite fascinating and a must see while in Vegas. They are located in the Bally's Hotel and Casino and easy to find.

We even were over at Acrylic Aquariums where they make the fish tanks for the tv show Tanked...( most of what they do is done in the back behind fenced in area but was still free for us to go in and take a look see).

A "bucket list" thing I did today was shoot a couple of real guns! Yeah - scary stuff! Wow! Shot a handgun and machine gun at The Range 702

Gerry did some shooting too but he's shot a gun before so it was more me just like wow and wow! I totally recommend if you are in Las Vegas to go to this place. They are sooo nice and totally professional. You can take your own photos, one of their staff helps with the shooting and you can keep your target practice sheet as a souvenir when you leave. I sure found out there is alot of power in a gun! We both loved the experience we had.

We did get to do some shopping in the afternoon as well- and looking around. Vegas weather was definitely cooler than in Quartzsite. We are in sweaters and pants here and have cut the furnace in in the RV.

We got together with Ria and Chris again to see the Terry Fator Show in the evening.

Neither of them been- and his show is one we see every time we are in Vegas. He had some new puppets this year, music and jokes. It's nice for the people that do come back every year to see him- but he also keeps some of our favorites. Always a full house! A must see show in Vegas. This was our 3rd or 4th time seeing it and we are always well entertained.

Tomorrow is another day.....so we'll talk to you all then.
