How To Thank Your Team For Their Hard Work & Make Them Feel Valued

Friday, April 24, 2020

When it comes to successfully running a business - be it a physical one or a virtual one - your team members play a crucial role in your success. Think of your team as the mechanics of your business - without them, the cogs in the machine would not turn, and thus your business would not succeed. That’s why, when it comes to your business’s success, it’s so crucial that you have a team who you can trust behind you.

What you don’t want is to have a team of employees on board who, while amazing at their jobs, are not content in their roles. Discontentment can occur within teams when employees don’t feel as valued as they should be. It’s all well and good sourcing the perfect team to help take your business forward, but once you bring them on board then you have to learn how to keep them.

One of the most important factors when it comes to employee retainment is boosting contentment by making your team feel valued and respected. The question is, of course, how can you go about doing that? How can you thank your team for all of their hard work and show them that you value them?

Below are a few simple ideas for how you can reward your team members and show them how much you value their hard work, loyalty and commitment.

Run employee awards

Think ‘employee of the month’ vibes. When it comes to showing your team that you value their hard work, handing out awards to show team members how much you love what they’re doing is an ideal step to take. Work out a list of monthly awards that you can offer, such as long service awards for team members who have been with the company over a year - these could be handed out annually. You could also do departmental awards and awards for team members who have made a big impact on a project or task. Get creative and see what you can come up with. Don’t forget, for each award a certificate is a lovely gesture, as is a gift voucher, bottle of bubbly, or bunch of flowers.

Give birthday gifts

Acknowledge your team members’ birthdays and it will go a long way. A large number of employers fail to even acknowledge their team members’ birthdays - don’t be this kind of boss. Instead, have a birthday package in place for each team member within their contracts - this will make a big difference in regards to how valued your team feels. Perhaps the birthday package could consist of one day off of paid non-holiday leave either on their birthday or the Friday or Monday before or after their birthday, a birthday cake, and a fun gift like a mug from panvola.com, for instance.

Listen to your team members’ ideas

Actively encourage your team members to share their ideas with you. As an employer, it’s important that your team feels that their ideas, knowledge and experience are valued by you. The best way to make them feel as if this is the case is to actively ask and encourage them to share their thoughts and ideas. Run an ‘open door’ office policy, where your door is always open for discussion and brainstorming sessions with your team members.

There you have it, a few simple ways to ensure that your team members feel as valued and content as possible.
