What Could The Travel Industry Look Like For Customers In 2021

Thursday, April 2, 2020

Currently, travel is the last thing on anyone's mind. It's safe to say the world is hoping and praying that things return to normal shortly. Until then, it's imperative to stay indoors and be safe to protect yourself, your family, and the community as a whole.

Of course, it's hard to think about the future and what may happen to the travel industry. Enthusiasts such as you and I want to know when we can visit Southeast Asia or take the kids to Disney World. After all, the industry is taking a hit and will continue to do so for the rest of the year. Still, there is a silver lining for every cloud. While it isn't easy to see right now, they do exist. You merely need to look hard enough.

With that in mind, here is what the world of travel could look like in 2021. The following are the potential upsides that people with wanderlust may be able to benefit from next year.

Low Flight Costs

Airlines, when they are finally up and running again, won't be able to hike their prices up to cover their losses. Why? It's because the public will have zero confidence in their ability to deliver for the first few weeks. Flights may get canceled again, and there's nothing stopping countries from closing their borders.

As a result, the cost of flights shouldn't be as high as usual to encourage people to fly again. For those who have the cash and haven't been affected by the crisis too much, it's an opportunity for a cheap vacation. Yes, there are pitfalls, such as airlines and hotels going bust, but that's why insurance is essential.

Also, it's essential to plan it strategically to lower the risk of wasting money. However, if the flights are cheap enough and you accept the risk, you may get a holiday bargain.

Reduced Accessory Prices, Too

The retail world won't suffer as much as the travel sector. This is because they have more diverse products and services that they can continue to sell to keep the doors open. Amazon, for instance, is hiring new staff to keep up with increased levels of demand. But, retailers will also have items that don't turn a profit, such as travel accessories.

People who search in the right place may be able to find deals that hardly exist, as a result. Sunglasses are prime targets as nobody is going to bother buying them at the moment. So, you may be able to afford a pair of designer Gucci glasses for your next vacation. There are levels to what will be affected, but if you're quick enough, you should be able to bag bargains on all kinds of travel essentials.

This includes sun lotion, clothes and hats.

A (Potentially) Bigger Budget

It's essential to start by saying that there will be families who will have financial issues during the outbreak. And, if you're one of them, a vacation will be the last thing on your minds. On the flip side, however, certain households will continue to work and earn a living. Because 75% of the country is under lockdown, you won't have much on which to spend it for some time. So, it's likely that your travel budget will be greater.

Although it seems as if there will be more significant things to spend it on, some studies have evidence that this isn't the case. A recent poll of US and UK residents shows that 43% and 33% respectively will either save or rebook their vacation with the money from their canceled holidays. In contrast, only 25% said they'd spend the cash on something else.

That means a grander vacation could be within your reach in 2021.

Vacation = Staycation

Don't rule out taking a holiday at home. Don't worry because nobody will want to go near their properties after a couple of weeks of being housebound! A home vacation means staying in the country, which seems likely at this point considering the difficulty with traveling. Remember that even if countries open their borders, the virus is expected to hit again at the end of the year.

The effects this may have on the industry in 2021 are unknown. After what has happened so far, it's worth booking a staycation to be on the safe side. Not that there's anything wrong with it. 14% of people in the same study said they'd spend the money on a staycation.

What do you think will happen in the future?
