Saturday September 4th

I understand that it may be a long weekend in the USA as well as it is here in Canada? Anyone going away for the long weekend? We're stuck home, but nice to be enjoying a nice day today. Think I'll take in a walk with my sister after supper.
Gerry's outside mowing the lawn and after a full day of errands and housework, I'm just making an apple pie,( using up the canned milk I had in the fridge-and trying a new recipe), and spending some time on the computer.

We had one of our indoor plants outdoors all summer. It was slow growing when I first got it, as we kept it in the house, but left it outdoors and it really grew nicely.Gerry picked up a new self watering pot for it today, and we brought it indoors, so hopefully it will continue to do well. I think it  may be a rubber tree plant. If anyone has tips to grow these plants healthy, I'd love to hear from you.

Gerry was busy yesterday putting a tarp he got ( free) from my sister's boyfriend, on our storage garage.( Second building in the picture to your right). The garage is a few years old and the roof was getting worn. When it rained, it was leaking . He took the new tarp and  was able to secure it  with some rope and  fix it for about $20, (for the cost of the rope and grommets.) Bring on the rain!

It looks like we are able to take some holidays this year after all.
Some of you may remember that we weren't able to take holidays earlier this year as one of the ladies in Gerry's office was hurt and he had to stay working, since she was off. We lost our timeshare points and a few hundred dollars as we had already made plans that had to be cancelled.
Now it looks like he can go, and I had thought with his 50th birthday coming up on October 29th, it would be nice to take a cheap cruise. You know, one of those 4 day ones.I had money saved and wanted to "live in the moment" so to speak.I read so many negative reviews though, that I changed my mind and we are going back to Vegas instead.
I have a doctor appt in the city on the 29th so we may fly out from there and go for a few days-1 week.Plans aren't too definate yet.I would like to go to the  Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon.
If you live in this area, or have vacationed here before and have a "must see" list, please feel free to post it in the comments. We did go for about 3-4 days about 4 years ago but didn't see much but the strip.
On the same token,if you have been on a  Carribbean or otherwise 3-4 day cruise, I'd love to hear from you. You can post in comments or email me personally. Was it a good or bad experience?

Off to the drive in tonight,( no movie theatre here), to see The Other Guys. A night out!

Till next time-

  3. My husband and I are taking a trip to Vegas Oct 16-22. We have gone there several times and love to stay Downtown at the Fitzgerald. The atmosphere is great, hotels are close and all within a couple of blocks. Very easy to walk to. If you have a car, we have enjoyed going to Red Rock Canyon, it is west of Las Vegas, short drive. We have also gone to Ethel M's Chocolate Factory & Catcus Gardens in Henderson. This year we might take a drive to Zion National Park in Utah.

  4. Wonderful! We haven't been to downtown area before. We only walked and took cabs. Thsi time we may rent a car but trying to see first how to get insurance for the car on our policy or something cheaper, as that is the killer with the car rental.Thank yuo for the ideas- I have jotted those down.
