Feeling the Wind in Your Hair with Florida Biplanes

Monday, July 30, 2012

Most seasoned travelers would agree that air travel is not what it used to be. Gone are the days of sophistication and the feeling of freedom as you take to the open skies and experience the wind through your air....Wait a second...what wind in hair?

On our upcoming trip to Florida, Gerry and I will experience the true glory days of travel, way before the closed planes became all the range-we will be sailing through the skies in a 1940’s open cockpit BiPlane. When we are hundreds of feet in the air, and once we open our securely shut eyes, we should be able to see the edge of Florida’s space coast including the Kennedy space center, Port Canaveral, as well as the magnificence of Florida’s many sandy beaches. The company, Florida Biplanes, offers 15 minute, 30 minute, 45 minute and sunset rides. We chose to do the 15 minute flight experience, which should be plenty of time to gaze over the open ocean.

The planes which we are taking are called “Waco planes” and they were used in full service during world war two, with less than 100 flying up to this day. The planes sit two adults which will be very nice to experience with Gerry. While the experience certainly looks thrilling, it is definitely very safe, and it will be a great way to have a bit of fun and adventure on our Florida getaway.

Can't wait to tell you all about it!
