Going to The Beach on The Cheap

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

The summer is upon us, and people everywhere are looking for cheap and affordable ways to continue to enjoy their family vacation! If you are one of them, please keep in mind that you don't have to blow $1000 on a plane ticket to Bali when some of the world's most beautiful beaches may be right in your backyard... at a much cheaper price.

Cape Ann, Massachusetts: Perhaps you have not thought of the Northeast as the ideal vacation spot for the summer season, but you may want to check out Massachusetts for some local and lesser-known areas, such as this cape. This is a native secret that is found north of Boston, and it has long and isolated stretches of beach. In the nearby town, there is also shopping, restaurants, and art galleries, and don't forget to try some delicious and fresh lobster! Many of the motels will give you cheap rates around $100 a night in the peak season.

Huntington Beach, California: You may be surprised to know that this part of Orange County is much more affordable than it is rumored to be! You can check out the International Surfing Museum, local surfers, and 8 miles of beautiful beach during your stay. Many local motels will offer rooms for around $129 each night with restaurants within walking distance.

Canon Beach, Oregon: This destination is roughly an hour and a half away from Portland, and it offers an affordable yet beautiful beach locale. The scenery itself is breathtaking, and you also have the opportunity to hike in the Emerald Forest to see the redwoods, which is only a short drive away. In short, you will have the best of both worlds in your beach vacation with affordable nearby motels at around $70 a night in the peak season.

Destin, Florida: This is a wonderful and beautiful vacation destination with a 100 mile stretch of shoreline that faces the Gulf of Mexico. Here you can find stunning sand and scenery that won't be as crowded as many of the more popular Florida destinations with budget prices on rooms that may even include a continental breakfast!

  1. I live on Staten Island of NYC.. so many beaches.. but is the water safe to go in.. due to the oil spill??

I've been sticking to nature walks instead... such a shame about the oil.. I'm staying optimistic as always.
