Your One Income Story by Rosanne of Illinois

Monday, January 17, 2011

We have lived on one income for the last 16 and 1/2 years.

We have raised 4 sons who attended private schools during this time.

First of all I never leave home without a coupon. Whether I'm at the grocery store where I also check the mark down bins, or any fast food restaurant or any other store-coupons are in the car with me.

I turn off lights unplug everything not being used, turn the heat off when we go to bed, and don’t buy anything until we have saved the money. We drive old cars, continually check receipts to make sure the price we were charged was correct and wear clothing over and over.

I go online to find things at a better price and sell old books online and items on eBay. I have an annual garage sale where I sell clothing and household items that was not accepted by the consignment store. If it does not sell at the garage sale I donate it. We give to our church regularly trusting that God will provide for us.

My husband's income fluctuates with the economy. We don't have health club memberships, nor do we get a newspaper nor do we have a landline phone. My husband does all the yard and repair work.

We are all college educated and our sons have attended top 50 universities. They were top students grade wise and involvement in sports and extracurricular activities and all got scholarships or fellowships.

Yes we do sit home a lot watching Redbox movies in the winter but we do occasionally spend for a vacation or on gifts for others.
